"I do not know about my comrades, but as for myself, I am in need of new clothing and armor, seeing as how I no longer fit my old ones. A few spell components would also be most welcome, onyxes and powdered silver particularly. I also believe we need to acquire some rations. Are these wares at the library? If so, I say we head on there. We are all in need of some rest."

"I'm sure you can find what you're looking for," says Moriamis as she smiles. "Franco here will lead the way when you're ready. I'll send someone to tend to your horses, you can just tie them up for now. I need to lay down."
Moriamis flies off the way she came. Franco stands awaiting the party's orders.

"Pleased to meet you Franco" says Tammytharn, wondering if he was one of the same men why had tried to rob them earlier.

"We will follow you to the library now. We'll bring our horsed and wagon, no sense leaving them here in the middle of nowhere. I am sure we can leave them someplace closer to the library."

Franco silently leads the party through the woods. The trail is very rough and it takes a while to get the wagon through. After about a mile of travel, which takes about an hour, the party comes to a cottage and a barn. There are some chickens and goats milling about.
"Leave your horses here, they will be looked after. After that, follow me down into the cave," says Franco as he moves towards a rock formation in the side of a hill very near the cottage.

Tammytharn is somewhat surprised that the library is in a cave.

"Why is the library in a cave?" she asks politely to Franco

"The library is very ancient. I don't know who made it or why they put it where they did. Perhaps it's the best way to keep the books safe and dry?" says Franco.

The party complies and follows Franco into a small cave. The cave opens up and the walls seem more and more works and less like nature cave walls the further they go in. The underground tunnel Franco leads the party through takes dozens and dozens of twists and turns. Every so often a torch can be found on the wall. These seem to be ever burning torches. After a while and just as the party is getting unnerved by their situation, they come to a stone worked wall and a sturdy metal door. Franco takes out a key and unlocks the door.
"Welcome to the library."
The door opens to a huge magically lit cavern. The ceiling sits more than 40ft up. Tons of people in robes walk around, seeming to be going about their daily lives. As they see the party they pause but don't stare too long before going back to what they were doing before. The cavern circles around a large pit. Looking over the side of railing set around the pit, the party can see several levels of what seem to be shops and houses built into the side of the cavern. Below that are levels and levels of book shelves. The bottom can barely be seen despite the magical light filling the cavern.
"The passage over here leads to a tavern that you can rest at," Franco motions towards a passage on the other side of the hole. "Feel free to explore the library and our shops and services. Our lady will speak to you tomorrow." Franco bows and leaves.

"Excellent."

Kalar turns to the rest and says, "Do you want to split up to gather information and procure supplies? Or would you rather stick together?"

The library is open to the party. They can sit and read any book they want, they need only select a subject and start reading.
There are no magical tomes available.
Magical items are for sale. The party can buy roughly any magic item with value less than 5,000gp. Non-magical items are limited to things no bigger than a suit of armor.

The party gains 4,720 xp
kalar gains 6,100 xp

Voulton's interest is in maps, atlases. The layout of Averoigne, it's proximity to places he would know of, especially anything that would've been written about his homelands. If he' got enough time after looking over the maps, he'll switch over to researching all he can about the sword: What it is, where it came from, why it's important. Of all the magic items required for this procedure, it seems to be the one he'd understand the most. Assuming he still has any time after all that, he'd like to research something an old priest once told him: Whether or not Giants are "just big people"... and maybe whether or not halflings are just little ones. "You might not expect it, but I love books. They're one of the best things to come from trees."

Seeing as how Voulton is now perusing books, Kalar decides that splitting up would seem to be the preferred avenue of action.

"Let's meet back here in a few hours then. Hrulgin, stay with Voulton here. I'm sure people will be more ready to hear an explanation for your presence from him than from myself. Besides, if people suddenly attack, you'll be safer with him for the time being."

With that, Kalar heads off to get some clothes, replenish his provisions and equipment, and to learn what he can.

Another thing: Voulton will take this once in a lifetime opportunity to try to find documented evidence of why evil chicks are hotter than good ones. That's somewhere on the priority list.

Kalar looks around, going from shop to shop to see how much he can get for the items he has no use for.

  • Emerald ×2
  • Large diamond ×2
  • Crystal vial of powdered gold ×5
  • Crystal vial of powdered platinum ×5
  • Scale armor
  • Large spiked shield
  • Bracelet of resistance +3
  • Life-sized statue of a rooster (unless you guys don't want me to sell this)

The shop offers:
200gp - Emerald ×2
5000gp - Large diamond ×2
50gp - Crystal vial of powdered gold ×5
500gp - Crystal vial of powdered platinum ×5
2000gp - Life-sized statue of a rooster (unless you guys don't want me to sell this)
50gp - Scale armor
10gp - Large spiked shield
5000gp - Bracelet of resistance +3

Voulton starts to go through his list of things to read. He spends a long time looking through maps. He finds one that is very detailed.

It's a good start, but this doesn't look like any place Voulton has seen before, nor does it say where this Kingdom is in relation to anything else. It'd be nice to find some common frame of reference, but after looking through all these maps and coming up blank he's starting to realize the futility of it. Maybe researching the sword will connect it somehow, the Lumberlands have been home to many fine smithies.

Tammytharn had resisted the lure of the Library and the shops, and rested. In the morning, she first divided up the gold from her bag of holding.

She counted out 9430 gp (10000, minus what she had spent on the wagon and horses and lodging for the party)

She then divided this by four, and adds two coins from her own personal funds to make it divide evenly

2358 gp to Lynda
2358 gp to Rachelle
2358 gp to Kalar
2358 gp to Tammytharn.

She feels a little queasy handing the money over to Kalar, knowing how much he spent on that cursed sword, and wondering what he will spend this on, but she keeps her lips sealed, and just smiles.

She feels bad having nothing to give to Voulton. She resolves to buy him a gift from her own funds, if he mentions anything he needs... but then she feels akward telling him about this intention, wondering how the gesture will be interpreted. She ends up just stiffly asking "Do you need anything Voulton?"
