Kalar manages to overhear a conversation about a person known as Azedarc. Azedarc is the Bishop of Ximes. Opinion seems equally divided as to whether the man is a black magician masquerading as a bishop or a saintly, maligned man.

The party as a group find out a few things as well. Vyones, Perigon and Ximes are the three major cities of Averoigne. The capital and major city of Averoigne is Vyones. Vyones is a walled city that houses a cathedral and the Archbishop of Vyones (the political and clerical leader of the province). This Inn, The Inn of Bonne Jouissance, lies on the road between Vyones and Ximes. Vyones is to the north and Ximes is to the south.

How curious...Lynda would normally be fine with being the center of attention. After all, she is dressed in lavish clothing and jewelry, carrying a boatload of precious jewels and gold, so she certainly stands out among a crowd...but, these people were instead noticing her for being an elf. This made her somewhat unsettled. She had not noticed, nor payed attention, to this sort of thing while she traveled with her party, and was the least of her concerns as they adventured through Castle Amber.

She decided not to show her discomfort, however. She instead decided to strike up a conversation with the inn keeper. She was glad to see normal people, after so long of being in Castle Amber with its insane and incoherent inhabitants. Also, she needed to gather some information about Averoigne, current events, and anything else that comes up.

Lynda sparks up a conversation with the Inn Keeper. He explains how the only elves in the area came from Castle Amber. "Yes, I know where you came from miss," explains the Inn keeper. "It's not hard to guess that you lot are adventurers from the castle the way you dress and spend money. I'm glad to see you seem like the peaceful type as opposed to the violent ones that come here sometimes. Oh, before you ask, I don't know where the items you seek are. Also, if any of you are the magical types, keep that to yourselves here. Magic is against the law.
I hope that helps. Is there anything I can get you?"

The inn keeper is quite helpful, thankfully. She quells back her laughter as he says magic is illegal, thinking of her amulet and its wonderful effects...though he appears to have dealt with many others of their kind, which raises other questions.

"I'm considering ordering something, but for now I'd just like to talk. I haven't encountered many people who have been willing to have a decent conversation. Yes, we did come from the castle. Though, it's disheartening to hear that there have been more violent groups before us. Do adventurers from the castle pass through here frequently?"

"I'll be sure to pass along the local law along to my friends. However, if you don't mind my inquiring, why is this law in place?"

The Inn Keeper takes on a grim and hushed tone, "Well, here in Averoigne magic is considered to be an evil pagan practice. There are many pagan groups in the area that I suggest you avoid. Clerics do not cast spells, and spell casters in general are viewed with suspicion. While the ecclesiastical laws are not rigidly enforced, spell casters are subject to arrest and trial by the Inquisition with subsequent execution left to the civil authorities."

"As far as others coming before you. It was about two months ago when a group of people came here. One of them was an elf too I think. Last I heard they had settled in Ximes. Many of the adventurers that wind up here just settle down and make a life here. However, I also heard, long ago, that a group of strange looking adventurers came through here. One of them was a giant, one of them turned into a dragon, one of them was a little bug fellow, and one of them rode a hideous bird monster. They attacked several people nearby and I've heard they've continued to cause trouble ever since."

"I see..." Lynda says grimly. Rogue adventurers and pagan groups? Fun times...

"Interesting. Very good to know. So, what's currently going on in Averoigne? Has anything major happened lately?"

Lynda also puts in an order for something good to eat.

"So..." Lynda says. "Knowing us, we're either going to be headed to Yvones or Ximes. Is there anything important we should know about those two cities?"

"Woof."

And with that, Kalar the Dog pads out of the inn and heads back to where Hrulgin is. He'd rather not spend the night at the inn, especially if they don't know if the moon will be full. Once there, he'll attempt to turn back to his hybrid form and then rearm himself.

Being from the third world, I reserve the right to speak in the third person.

Galse will sit and listen (has he presumably has been doing) to Lynda's conversation with the innkeeper. He says nothing and seems to be deep in thought.

The dog leaves and the Inn Keeper turns to Lynda. "I think your dog ran off," he says. "As for information about the towns, I'm not sure what you mean, nothing really comes to mind. Though, talking to you reminds me that a few other adventurers that came from Castle Amber have been staying here for the last couple of months. I think they're out right now, but I'll turn them your way if you'd like to talk to them. I'm sure they'll know more than I will."

Tammytharn sits next to Galse, and tells him what is on her mind.

"Since we left the castle, I have been thinking of a spell. Break Enchantment. I have never cast it before, but I think I can do it. It came to me when we left the castle, but I didn't mention it then because I am... almost frightened that it might work. If it works, then Rachelle could be saved, but it also means that I killed Gontort for nothing."

Tammytharn reached level 9 on the 3000 exp we got when exiting the castle. I haven't finished updating her spell list yet, but she can cast one level 5 cleric spell.

I am going to our room to rest and meditate and prepare the spell, and in the morning I am going to go and try it on Rachelle's statue.

The party all contemplates their situation. The lack of tension in this Inn has taken the fight out of some of them. They all take the time to finally relax. Not much more information is gained that day. The night comes and Kalar is happy to see it is not a full moon. It seems they had just missed the full moon and it would be almost a month before it came around again. The night goes on and Tammytharn looks over the party, healing their wounds that have piled up while they were in the castle.
The night passes and the next day comes. The party starts to talk about what they think they should do next.

Galse decides to just spill it out. "I don't think I'm gonna be going with you. Talking swords and skeletons, demons, time travel potions and magic mirrors? Way more than I signed on for. This place seems.. nice. Nobody gets turned into a statue or eaten by monsters in the fog. I wish you success, I really do, but I've come as far as I can. We were lucky to get out of that castle. We keep on meddlin in this, we're just gonna wind up dead or worse. Don't get me wrong, I wanna go back home as much as the next guy but I'd.. kinda like to be alive when I do".

He realizes this might make others think less of him, think him a coward. For possibly the first time ever, Galse doesn't care. He's making the right choice and he knows it. Unbeknownst to Galse, somewhere in the cosmos someone else is making that right choice. If that someone could see Galse, they'd kiss him on both cheeks and embrace him warmly into its baguette-fed body and help him raise a celebratory white flag. That someone is a place called
France.

Rambling on to no one in particular, maybe just himself, Galse adds on "I'm a cook and that's what I should be doing. I'll stay on here if they'll have me, and if not I should be able to get safe passage to town and find a job there. I'll keep an ear out for anything that might help, send out couriers or something to try and relay it to you. I can't imagine you'll be hard to find."

Lynda sighs. She's upset Galse is leaving them, but at the same time, she's glad. Glad that he's leaving on his own accord, and wasn't torn from them in the midst of a battle, or worse...

"We will miss you, Galse." Lynda says. "I'm saddened we are losing you, but ultimately, it's your life, and who are we to drag you along on our wild adventures? Settling down does seem like a nice prospect, and Averoigne also seems like a decent place to do so...but in my heart, I'm an adventurer. I wouldn't be able to rest, knowing that this world is trapped in stalemate, and more people like us are just going to keep pouring in from that wretched castle. I'd rather be someone to break the curse...even if it means running myself in to my own demise."

"So...our next course of action is either Yvones or Ximes. Yvones will bring us closer to the Viper Circled Mirror, and we have a definite name to go along with it. Ximes may bring us to the potion of time travel, but it's not so certain. I'm open to go anywhere, but it's ultimately up to you guys." Lynda says to the group.
