So... that whole Smash thread got me thinking. We don't really have a lot of branding within our community, and we've all spent a lot of time playing and creating games. Why not have something really cool, at least for ourselves to show we are a part of a very unique group of creative people.

I'm working on organizing artwork with sodapiggy, in which he will draw all of the artwork and I will colorize it. We are going to try to pitch out the idea of doing a mouse pad and a poster. The point of these pieces of art is to show off the characters created by our community. We could easily fill out this project with whole groups of the same user's characters, but with so many users, it really takes away from letting as many people as possible be involved with this project.

We have a list of characters to be featured on this project. And as artwork evolves, I will share it here.

01. Bob the Hamster - wandering hamster
02. Bob Surlaw - walthros
03. Mr. Triangle - triangle adventure
04. Dogero - Sword of Jade
05. Kyle - Timestream Saga
06. Senor Death - Okedoke
07. Powerstick Man - powerstick man
08. Tim-Tim - tim-tim
09. Housemaster - Arfenhouse
10. Monterey Penguin - Monterey Penguin
11. Dayang - Motrya
12. Julia - pitch black
13. Reed - Bloodlust
14. Rancher Sam - Sheep Rancher
15. Fat Frog - fat frog
16. Slime King - blasphemous saga
17. S. Kikraizer - Trailblazers
18. Neke - Neke Woman of Mystery
19. Ranger - Spellshard
20. Monster - Ramble Planet
21. Fred - Ruin
22. TBD - Dungeonmen

As you can see, this list is quite large already with characters the community has expressed interest in over the years. Each character represents a game that is nostalgic to different users over that time as well. Most people don't know who Monty Penguin is, but the people that do, have very fond memories of that game. And for as many people who disliked Arfenhouse, there are people like Fenrir who just loved it enough to put it in Vikings of Midgard. The point of this list and this project, isn't to put every dude in the art, but instead to just feature our community and it's many prolific characters and give all of us something neat to have. If you haven't seen sodapiggy's art before, the guys talent rivals that of Fenrir's. If there are any other characters that have held the rest of time and are memorable, I will be open to their consideration, but as mentioned, I think this is best with a timeless list. We are looking to have this project done and hopefully ready for shipping by Christmas.

I have configured pricing, but it varies based on our final quantity. I would like to propose the following flat rates, and any money that is left over, can be donated to James Paige. Because let's face it, the dude has been making all kinds of great updates and offering great support.

Mouse Pads : $10 each for 1/8" thick mousepads, if enough people prefer them, $12 for 1/4" thick

Posters : 18 x 24 for $5.00 a piece.

If you are interested, please private message me with what you want and your address and I'll reply with my address for you to send your money to. Regardless of how many orders we get, we will be able to make your order happen. It will be exciting to see the finished result of this project, no doubt.

What about t-shirts? I'd proudly wear a Bob Surlaw t-shirt. You could use cafepress or something.

If enough people demand it, I can take this artwork and turn it into an area on cafepress with other stuff as well. For now I'd like to focus just on the posters and the mouse pads.

There's already a terrible Walthros shirt on Cafepress that I won't link to because it's hideous. I've sold two of them in 15 years. This new project will most definitely be better.

I would like a mouse pad, I guess.

I think it'd be best to try this out as a small thing with just the two. And then based on how well this one works out, we can try different products and different art next year to keep the pile of swag growing. Most of us use computers, so I figured a mousepad would be a fun thing for us to have. The poster will likely be the unpopular of the two, but these are things that would look cool in any room you work on games in.

This sounds awesome. I personally think whoever sets up the internet store should definitely look in to producing the shirts, posters, etc through RedBubble. I've been a part of their art community, as well as other art communities, for many years and from my experience they have the best quality printing for clothing (in comparison to society6, cafepress, and zazzle). On the downside they don't print mousepads, but do have other neat printed stuff like bed duvets, pillows, stickers, and more. Perhaps using multiple sources of printing will be best.

For right now, this can act as a "mail order" thing, where it's a limited time thing and so forth. Sodapiggy hasn't begun drawing anything yet, and this thread will likely give him the inspiration to kick everything into high gear. I plan to post updates as we go along to help build up the excitement of the project. It'd be fun to try to do something unique for our community every few years, so if this does well, we can visit other options next year.

Looks like a pretty good list. A good mix of old/new games, finished/in-progress/abandoned games, etc...

If you need reference pictures for Seor Death, I would go by the Seor Death comic I drew last year (not the cover picture, that one's kinda bad--mostly because I put too many bell things on his sombrero, but other parts look "off" to me too. The actual pages are better)--the details of his outfit are easier to make out there than in most of the in-game sprites.

Oh, and isn't the actual name of the Fat Frog character "Herman," with "Fat Frog" just being the title of the game? I know the first playable character in the game was named Herman when I played it years ago, anyway...
Of course, I never got very far in without running into bugs and iffy design that made things near-impossible to go onward, so I don't know if someone actually named "Fat Frog" shows up eventually or if the title's just referring to the fact that Herman is a frog... who's fat.

I'd probably be interested in either the poster or mousepad, maybe both. Though I don't really have a lot of spare money at the moment... so I'll probably have to wait a bit before I can say for sure that I'll plan on buying something.

I suggest adding Fenrir's Cthulhu; definitely one of the most recognisable and common of OHR characters. I think you've done a good job of picking only 'stars', but maybe it's still too many to fit onto a mousepad?

It has to be mentioned that way way back in 2000 Pepsi Ranger put together a big collage of OHR characters: http://rinku.castleparadox.com/Septa/ohrmonthly/0701collage.html

I guess I'll grab either the mousepad or poster. I'm not someone who hangs posters on their walls, but maybe someday I will?

At this point, nobody has ordered a poster so it might be best for us to stick with the mousepads unless anyone wants a poster by special request. I had strongly considered Cthulhu. But I decided to go with Kyle for the big reason that Cthulhu isn't exactly an original character even though he is fun and memorable in Vikings. Also, Kyle for Fenrir is kind of a dual representation, as Kyle was in Timestream Saga and possibly FFH. Fenrir spent a lot of time on TSSE and it unfortunately got canned. But in Fenrir's newest version of Vikings, Kyle is in there as well. That was my reasoning and I still feel like it's pretty solid. Represents Fenrir, represents Vikings, represents TSSE.

Sodapiggy and I have discussed the overall layout of the project and we should be able to neatly display all 21 characters with little trouble. When I get enough to show I will be updating this site with more information.

It might be easiest to RSVP your mousepads with me via paypal. So just send $10 to colesloth@gmail.com and in the notes for the submission put "OHR Mousepad."

I'll private message anyone who sends their money to get their address and then edit the first post of this page with those confirmed for mouse pads. This should keep everything relatively simple I would hope.

Man I submitted a lot of dudes for this. Also I remember almost none of the humans on here.

Wow. I think I recognized maybe two characters before scrolling down to the beach where Powerstick Man, the Walthros guys, and Monterey Penguin are... I wonder if anyone can actually name all those characters and what game they're from. XD

(...is that Jessie from the Pokmon anime in one of the windows? or just someone who has her haircut?)
