Universally change color of text boxes?

I was playing an old Final Fantasy game and it reminded me you could change text box colors on the OHR, but there are over 60 and I really don't want to go and change them all one by one. Is there a way to change all of them at once?

You can go to "Change User-Interface Colors" and change the default color for text boxes, and that would change all of them but it would also change the color of anything else that uses that default color. Otherwise, I don't know.

60 really isn't a lot. Better to catch this now and go ahead and change them than wait until there's a lot of textboxes and make it an even bigger pile of stuff to go in and do one-by-one. I mean, my game Okdok currently has over 2500 textboxes (it probably won't ever hit 3000, though, since the game is technically done already and is just getting some final additions and touch-ups before the public release of the complete version... but still, 2500 is a lot. Having to manually change one setting for 60 boxes isn't that bad.)

But no, I don't think there's any way to change them all at once without affecting menus and such that use the same textbox colors.

You might be able to use the Export Textboxes function to export it to a text file, and then do a massive search/replace operation and reimport them.

Yes, making use of textbox import and export is the easy way to do that.

Note that most text box styles aren't used in any builtin menus, so you can freely change them. What they're used for is documented here, though I'm not sure whether it's still completely up to date:

This is giving me an idea. If you wanted to make player customizable text box colors and styles like in FF6, you could just set aside a few specialized palette colors for text box + border and use scripts to change RGB values. I think?

I'll maybe try doing it as a vanity feature sometime.

Yes. Don't think I've seen that in an OHR game.

That is an awesome idea. I'd love to see this in a game. It's kind of one of those needless features that can make a game more personal, and awesome.

I especially liked in FF7 how you could create multiple colour gradient textboxes. I actually even just enjoyed the textbox border selection at the beginning of Earthbound, and the one in the Pokemon menu as well. It made both of these games a personal experience.
