While I'm not planning to begin this game, I think the overwhelming success of the 1st one on the Google Store (30,000+ downloads) has kind of forced me into considering the sequel that almost happened 4 years ago roughly.

I'm not sure what to gain from this thread, but I figured I would bounce some ideas off of people who have actually played the game and are actual Batman fans. I've wanted to make the sequel be about the Batman story arc "Under the Red Hood." I think it's a pretty awesome movie, and a great comic as well.

In Batman & Robin 1, the Joker broke 5 villains out of Arkham to distract Batman long enough to execute his plan. A story I loosely told based around a story from the animated series from the 90's. I realize that in making Under the Red Hood the game that I might have some standards to live up to, versus just crafting my own story. My concept right now, is to make a hybrid story between some elements from Arkham Asylum and the Red Hood. Namely the Titan formula.

For those unfamiliar, the Red Hood is fighting crime like a villain against the Black Mask. The primary concept of the game, Black Mask is fighting back against the Hood and hiring out Gotham muscle to take back territory, and that's some damage that Batman can't just let happen, so there's the primary set-up of bad guys and missions to choose from. The Titan formula could allow for some thugs for Red Hood to have, since he basically fights alone in the story, making for a better RPG. Also, a giant multi-part Red Hood boss battle at the end where he takes the Titan formula and gets giant? That's a great visual boss.

I'm not trying to start this game now, I'm tinkering, much like how I did with BR1 before I started it, setting up heroes and systems so I can steamroll the game once it's all planned (and my other projects are completed). I'm planning on at least three heroes in the party, each a lot more unique than the original duo. Based around the scale of the game, I might add in Tim Drake (the 3rd Robin), and then future unlockable characters later on.

What are your thoughts? Does mixing two projects together sound absolutely stupid, or is it the right kind of stupid to actually make for a great game? I'm trying to make the best sequel to a fan-game, keep in mind.[/img]

This sounds cool, just make sure you finish Mr Triangle's Adventure first! :)

I don't know enough about the Batman universe to comment on the story ideas, but it sounds like you have done your homework!

It doesn't feature the Red Hood, but if you want a storyline that allows you to feature multiple baddies, you could look into adapting the Hush storyline. That was pretty much a new villain per issue, leading up to the final big bad at the end.

Batman 2 Sprites photo Batman2 Main 4_zpshoogqhhe.png

Decided to write my own Batman story and use the source material as reference like how I did for Batman & Robin 1 and Joker's Break Out. A lot of the Google players have asked for more playable characters so I have decided to try to build the game that fits what I want to do with what they're asking for. These will be the four main characters throughout the story, but I'm planning at least two unlockable characters. I'm starting to stockpile artwork in so that when the Triangles are done this game can start up smoothly.

I also know very little abotu the BAtman universe, but creating an original plot sounds ideal. Who is the second hero?

Well as much as I was looking forward to Batman & Robin 2, I am cancelling it well before it starts. The first game has caught enough attention on the Google Play store to merit being pulled down on account of using uncopyrighted characters. I highly recommend anybody else be careful about "fan games" for the Google Play store.

Since I can't release another fan game without the risk of my developer account being terminated, I've decided to just cancel Batman & Robin 2 and focus on another original game after the Triangle games are finished. Fortunately all I did for BR2 was hero sprites. I did have an entire game planned and mapped out, which is the worst part. I might be able to salvage the concept and apply it to another game sometime.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I can't say I'm surprised. Surprised it's been this long without a copyright ding, frankly. Don't get discouraged though, you can still make your game! You just have to do what the big guys do: Make Batman and Robin 2 with "Vaguely Reminiscent But Legally Distinct Not-Quite Batman and Not-Quite Robin". Some of the greatest characters in literary history, comic book or otherwise, started as "Not-Quite This" or "Not-Quite That". Worst case, do what those weird dirty movies do and claim that "Pantless Batman" is constitutionally protected parody free-speech. Pantsless Batman and Robin fighting crime is a game I could get behind.

In no ways am I discouraged. I had 240,000 people play my game, which these days if it was just on slimesalad I'd be lucky to get a dozen. As much as the game was dissected by slime dudes, a lot of people loved the game for what it was. I knew the game was on borrowed time on Google Play, but like I said I'm happy it had as much time as it did there. It shows a lot of potential for future OHR games if a game like Batman & Robin, which was basically a typical OHR game, could do well, then any well made game using our engine could as well, they just wouldn't have the "Batman" edge to getting noticed.

I have a few game concepts on the shelf, so I'm just gonna put a pin in that one and go for the other one first. I think the idea for Batman2 could still be really great.

Congratulations on making a game that's gotten so much attention that you're forced to take it down. Score one for introducing the masses to the OHR. Score two for making them nervous with it.

I agree with Giz. Use the same concept and design, but change the characters to your own band of superheroes and villains (that are kind of like Batman). That way you don't waste anything.

Bummer.

Well, the game had a very good run, and you should be proud of how many people have played it.

Making up your own superheroes sounds like fun. I add my vote to that plan

I remember searching for it on the google store, and it was the top result next to other commercially licensed stuff. Was weird to see cause I know warner likes to drop the hammer hard.

Point being, there are plenty of other comic book IP's with an established audience who you could get some kind of green light with. Especially in the web comic arena. Quite a few do crowdfunders when they get approached by a game maker or such.

Dang. Are you going to make the android app available from elsewhere? Did you simply get kicked from the Play Store or did you receive a cease and desist? IANAL but if you haven't received a C&D (or other message from Marvel) then it seems that you haven't actually been asked not to distribute it.

This was an email from Google Play, not from Warner or DC. I fully plan to put the game and instructions for how to install the game on my website. Probably a good idea to host my games there as well for anyone who wants to play them on their PC. But yeah, this was only through google.

Which thinking back... I should probably finish my Amazon account listing so I can put it in that store.
