Winged Realm's up.
Slammed out the last few things I needed for it last night, so there's probably a few things I missed, but eh, I can fix them after finals.

Okay guys, here is the current list of eligible entries. These games and authors are eligible for the Heartbug bounty entry prize:

Winged Realm by Pheonix
Description: Looks like an original
Download: http://www.slimesalad.com/forum/viewgame.php?t=6377

Did I miss anyone?

If any 10-minute RPG tech demo released between June 1st and November 30th gets 30 minutes or more of gameplay added and uploaded by December 14th, I'll give them early submission credit and they can be included in the entry prize. Everyone else is now late.

On an unrelated note, I'm posting this using Internet Explorer since for some reason Firefox isn't letting me log in. Not sure why. Anyone have ideas?

Not letting you log on to SS? That happened to me, so I cleared my cookies and that seemed to fix it.

Oh, just remembered the whole "rereleases should post a save file/description of where the new stuff starts" bit in the rules. Or does that not apply to "OHR Legends" entries?

I guess I could post an "end of Beaverfoot" save file, possibly one where the Chapter 6 sidequest is required to go any further... though the other new stuff is scattered through previous chapters so it'd be harder to come up with "right before new stuff starts" save files for those parts.

Seeing as how this is a brand new computer, it shouldn't have any cookies :p. Yet somehow that was the problem. Weird. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. It works now.

Legends require the same submission materials (update note or save file) that rereleases do; they just come with a more prestigious label. And, I've played through Okedoke from start to finish, and I can safely say that a save file is not the answer in Okedoke's case (unless you really want to). You have enough new stuff in all the chapters to warrant a fresh playthrough, and I'd encourage anyone who plays it to start from the beginning. I'd just leave behind a notepad file explaining what's new since the previous release to appease the rules. That should be good enough.

Also, Froginator, if you read this, can you let me know if Pumpkin Warriors is an RPG of about 30 minutes or more? Or will it be by December 14? If so, you might be eligible for the Heart of the OHR, and since you've had a version up since before November 30, you'd also be eligible for the entry prize. Let me know. I like to have at least eight entries per contest, and yours would make #7 if it's eligible, and judging by the screenshots, it looks like it would make a great fit.

Always too tired from work to play around with making my game. It's still not even as finished as I was planning on making it for Halloween. Ten days is still a lot of time to finish this though, and even if I don't make it for that there's nothing saying I have to put my game in a contest. Maybe I'll wait until it's really complete instead of releasing a demo.

Ah, okay. Is the included okedoke_history text file good enough for that (it does describe pretty much every new thing added to the game since the last public release, between the "final version beta" and "final version complete" entries in there), or should I probably add a shorter "new stuff" list on the game's page on here (just describing the sidequests, new areas, etc. rather than every single bugfix and tiny change to an enemy/attack/item/etc.?)

I might go ahead and do that anyway, since the history text file is pretty huge and I'm guessing most people won't read through all of it. XD

I updated the chart here http://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/Heart_of_the_OHR_2014 to show actual entries.

I moved the list of feature request bounties here: http://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/User:Bob_the_Hamster/HeartBugs_2014

Spoonweaver requested a bigger hero reserve. I am working on it.

RMZ requested a fix to shop display when the price of an item is really long because of trades. I haven't started yet, but I know I can do it. The real question is do I fix it by abbreviating the long display (like old versions used to) or by allowing it to wrap over two lines

FnrrfYgmSchnish hasn't made a request yet (unless I missed it?)

Buni M hasn't made a request yet

Pheonix requested map export as images, but I am hoping he will accept RMSephy's ohr-mapper tool as the fulfillment of that request (Thanks RMSephy!)

James, I don't know if Froginator wants in, but I just played through his game, Pumpkin Warriors, originally released in early October, and it is just long enough to qualify for this contest. I'm gonna send him a PM in case he's not reading this thread to see if he's aware of Heart of the OHR and if he has any reason to reject Pumpkin Warriors as a submission. Unless he rejects it, I'm gonna add it to the list of this year's entries.

And what about eligible games which haven't been explicitly entered in the contest? t4r4d1ddl3 is such a game. Definitely meets the length requirement. Very nice.

We never did make a decision about whether t4r4d1ddl3 should be counted, and because progression is so abstract, I'm still reluctant. But the comments TMC made about it being truer to the heart of the OHR than most RPGs made with the engine today convinces me that it should be included in the list, so I'll add it to the contest officially. Again, if its author objects, I'll pull it from the ranks. It will also be allowed an entry prize if the author asks for one.

Also, about the no sidescrollers thing, does that mean Stand is ineligible for the contest? It doesn't have any platforming and it's a definite RPG, but it is a sidescroller.

I played Stand today, and I agree that it's worthy of a spot in the contest if you can include at least 30 minutes of gameplay or finish one complete sidequest or chapter arc (whatever you say is complete) by December 14.

It will not be included in this year's lineup in its current state, but I will happily include it if you can meet one of these base requirements. (Having one complete quest as an alternative to the 30-minute rule isn't exactly a rule, but I think it should become one--and we've had at least one game in Heart of the OHR's history opt in on that unwritten rule back in 2010--so I'm gonna grant you the same mercy if you can pull it off in time.) As usual, this is open for debate, but at this late stage, I don't suspect much debate will follow.

P.S. Judging by the screenshots in the game's description, you might actually have enough content for eligibility. Because I haven't seen any of the things you've posted in the screenshots when I played the game, it's possible I haven't seen the whole game because I didn't have a clue what to do once I got to the cave-in. That's as much as I've played (not including a quick exploration of the town). At any rate, I'll accept it if you can get one of the two above conditions met in the next ten days, if they aren't already secretly met. And because you already have a version online, you'll be eligible for the entry prize.

There's still one other game I have to try to see if it's eligible, the James Doppler RPG thing with the crazy long title. I'll let you guys know if it should be on the list.

Meanwhile, I'll be contacting these authors through PM to see if they have reason to keep their games out of the contest.

Your user name is even longer than RedMaverickZero's, so in the future, I'll be referring to you as AGD. :p To answer your question, we'll begin voting officially on December 16th. We'll either keep it in this thread or move it to a fresh voting thread. Traditionally, we vote in the same thread as the contest. Some people send me their scores through PM or IRC.

Here's a sample of how things went in 2012: http://www.slimesalad.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5132&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=480

Has anyone begun playing the games yet?

Honestly, this is because I had no idea whether I wanted to enter the completed Okédoké in this or not at the time when the original call for bugfix/feature requests went out. XD

I would've suggested a higher number of heroes (both hero definitions and in reserve), but it seems like that one's already on the "to-do" list, so... hmm.

Maybe the ability to customize which colors the battle damage numbers use, rather than just the default white = normal, red = restored HP from a draining attack, and I think there was a green used for something? I mean being able to choose which color to use for each within Custom, just like how the menu text, money, spell descriptions and so on are set up now. And maybe along with the ability to customize the colors the engine uses by default, it'd be nice to have some extra options, like a different color for damage against weak/resistant enemies, for healing, to indicate poison damage (or maybe for damage to different stats, for those games that make that kind of thing visible), etc...

I agree that this would be useful. The game I'm working on now is done entirely in B+W, and I don't want to have to edit the palette too much to keep it true to that theme.

Sometimes I look at how long it's been since I _ and I feel kinda bad about it.

Then I start feeling bad about myself.

I started working on this game, naming it Nathan is Great, partly to combat this long-standing problem I've had with my own self-esteem.

You're not alone in that boat. I've got a hard time getting anything serious done, either, and it makes me feel useless sometimes. Just don't blame it on yourself, man.
