My Little Mogri, it's not a question of *how much* but *if you like it*. was from some feedback I received recently. thought it interesting enough to share.
Personally, I don't know if that's all of it, but I agree it's a part as *usually* you don't waste time grinding if you don't enjoy the game enough to, and that *usually* relates to if you like the characters you're playing as and enjoy the game's context/motivation as defined by the story. A lot of grind-heavy games are mmo-like, where the design is for the player to strongly associate with and thus become invested in the character they're playing as.
Whereas in many (most?) ohr games I've reviewed, the characters and stories are often not terribly developed or appealing. And when the design requires me to grind, or the option's available, question is why. Why else would you?
