As I begin to brainstorm the new design of the final storyline map, it has become a really bittersweet moment for me.
I just looked back in this thread and realized that I've been working on Ruin off and on for almost three years. Despite having several periods of extreme downtime, I'm very proud of myself for coming this far with the project.
There is still much to be done before I can call it a "finished" game, but you can essentially play through the 95% of the game from start to finish now. While 95% of the graphics, dialogue, and scripting is in place, I still have yet to overhaul items, adjust enemy stats, implement extra features, and add a handful of new, optional content.
If my progress remains consistent, I anticipate having Ruin finished within 2-3 months. This isn't a hard deadline, but rather a goal I'd like to meet if possible. At that point, I will begin the grueling task of playtesting it myself. I will test it until I feel that it is up to snuff for third party playtesters to try out.
---------------------
I will be paying (yes, paying) for two or three playtesters to comb through the content again before release. I know that some people may be willing to do it for free, but I'm looking for those that will really dig deep and test as efficiently as possible. I will base the actual pay of testing on the total hours it takes to fully finish the game (including optional content). Becoming a tester will also give you a spot in the game's credits and a free copy of the finished game.
With that being said, I still intend to sell the finished game. There will be a lengthy demo that you can try before buying, but the full version will cost no more than $5. I will probably have a one month period at the beginning where you can buy it for "whatever you want" before it goes to the standard price.
---------------------
In closing, I want to once again thank SDHawk for Livestreaming The Omega years ago and inspiring me to work on the game again. I know I've made this clear before, but I want to remind everyone that Ruin is more than a simple remake of The Omega.
It features all new graphics, original music, gameplay elements, dialogue, and optional areas. The bulk of the story is also refreshed or completely new, so those that played the original are still in for some huge surprises. The original demo that I released of Ruin a couple years ago doesn't even begin to do the current game's form justice, which is why I pulled it from the download page last week.
I say all of this to encourage you to check out Ruin once it is complete. If you aren't keen on paying money for an OHRRPGCE game, then I challenge you to play the new demo that will be available in the coming months and then see how you feel about it. I've played some terrible games on Steam that were more than $5. I can assure you that those who buy the full version will not be disappointed.
(But hey, this is coming from a guy who paid for the full version of Fat Frog back in 2000 *rimshot*
