I just distributed one of my games using the "Mac distribution" option in the nightly editor. After unzipping the distributed file, I tried to run the app but it the game prompted me, saying I need the latest nightly to play the game. I thought that distributing the game creates an executable file that anyone can play regardless of whether they have OHRRPGCE... Also I do have the latest nightly, so I don't see what's going wrong.

Hmmm.... this probably means that I screwed something up.
Can you send me a copy of the tar.gz file that it exported? I can examine it and that should help me figure out what is wrong.
Also, it would help to know whether you exported it from a Windows computer or from a Mac computer.

Just sent you a PM of it now. It was exported using a MAC.

So it appears that the distribute menu bundled it with a copy of beelzebufo's game instead of the latest nightly wip.
That is very strange, because a couple months ago when I used distribute for Crypt of Baconthulhu (which also requires nightly wip features) it used the correct copy of game
What is the version number of your nightly?
EDIT: Also, I have a new theory: is it possible that you were temporarily disconnected from the internet at the time when you used the distribute for mac option? If so, it would have used the leftover copy of game from the last time you successfully used distribute for mac, which might have been when you were running beelzebufo

I am using WIP 20140225, I am very sure that I was connected to the internet while distributing. In fact I distributed the game about 3 times and none of the attempts worked as expected. Just to be sure, I distributed it again now. Still not working.
EDIT: I just tried downloading and distributing with the latest nightly. Still having the same problem though. I'm pretty sure I deleted all past versions of CUSTOM and GAME of my computer too.

I am still totally puzzled by this. I cannot reproduce the problem.
I also can't figure out why the "rm" command I suggested earlier wouldn't work. Could you repeat the command:
And let me know if the results are any different than last time?
Also, I would be curious to see the output of these two commands:
