He essentially said "don't be a jerk" to no one in particular. If you feel like you were being called out on it, then that may have something to do with your ridiculous "there is an actual need for me to be a jerk" stance.
Criticism is appropriate. Harsh criticism is often warranted. Replying to someone's first post by telling him to give up on his dreams and go work as a janitor is inappropriate, and I would hope that you could appreciate the distinction, since it's not exactly a fine one.

He essentially quoted me, in much the same way you did. It was clearly directed at me as much as your comment is.
As for the comment about becoming a janitor. First, I feel like you're all taking that too offensively. There's nothing wrong with being a janitor. Second, it was meant to be over the top. This was to highlight the fact that the post was more than a little ridiculous. Which you all clearly agree with, so I can only assume this is blind janitor hate.
I could understand the target of the comment perhaps losing his senses after reading my post and being mistakenly offended at which point I might explain that it wasn't meant literally, but as more of an example of how unacceptable I believed his post to be. However, all this internet white knighting isn't helping anyone. Treating someone like an injured baby bird is much more insulting than suggesting he become a janitor.

You are dangerously off base here. No one in this entire thread has sided with the original poster. No one is "white knighting" anyone. Only one person in this entire thread is acting wounded, and it's you.
Let me be perfectly clear: your behavior in this thread was unacceptable, and telling anyone, new or old, to give up and leave will get you banned again.

@Wobbler: I did start a thread about growing the community, but if you'd like talk about it here I suppose that works too. So, do you have any actual comments or ideas about growing the community or keeping the numbers the community has now?
Or is your suggestion for everyone to just "leave" the community and only show up to post sarcastically trollish remarks?

Telling someone to give up and leave, whether in jest or not, is not acceptable behavior. If it sounds like I'm past reasoning here, it's because it doesn't matter at all what your reason is for telling someone this. I can't emphasize this enough. This is not something I will tolerate, and it makes no difference whether you were kidding.

I can see that the joke went a bit far here. I just think you're over-reacting a bit. I'm going to play the bad judgement card here, though. I am on a lot of pain medication still and even though I think I'm thinking perfectly clearly, I guess what I say in jest might be misunderstood by people not on pain killers.
The whole point of this was really to try to bring the state of the community into the spotlight. The argument is basically that we shouldn't be jerkish because it'll scare off new people and perhaps drive off old people. I don't necessarily think that's true, but I can see the logic behind it. What I completely don't agree with are the hints that jerkish behavior is the case of the current state of the community, but again I can see why people might think otherwise.
In any case, I'd rather have a discussion about this, then continue whatever this thread.
So let's all move our discussion here, and I'll try to be less of a jerk.

im sorry if it came off like i wanted my work done for me, this was a middle of the night idea, i've already got the basic stuff started i was just looking if anyone would be interested in helping out before i uploaded the barebones demo of the game. i was just puting the idea out to test the waters. not trying to develop the next best seller.

It is tough to get help, especially on graphics. Everybody usually has more game ideas than they know what to do with, but sprite art takes a lot of practice, and even when you have the experience it still takes time.
But I think the more of your own work you show, the more people will be willing to help you out-- even just in terms of feedback and advice.

Glad to see all the negative comments didn't scare you off 7Slime. And sorry for my part in that. It wasn't really aimed at you personally so much as aimed at the dozens of people that ask me to make their game for them every couple of months.
You know, your situation is actually one of the main reasons I started the random colab contest. I'm thinking of starting up another type of colab project, I hope you'll give it a look.
Oh, and like James (bob) said, let's see what you got. Post some screenshots. Even if the graphics are bad screenshots can tell us a lot about the game's gameplay and plot too.

Have a look at http://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/Community_Graphics_Resources for graphics -- you can use them either as placeholders or even use them permanently if they fit well enough.
Also, I actually thought the idea could be promising, if you flesh it out enough. But what I'm imagining would involve a lot of scripting, and you seem to be looking for scripting help too.
