The main target of the boss is it's body, let's say.
Each other body part has various attacks that occur when the main body randomizes using an attack that does no damage but uses a custom element to trigger the counter, so that all parts don't just attack relentlessly.
You can attack each body part individually, so if the head part is smashed, or the arm-L part is broke it's no longer usable. If a stat reduction skill is used on a particular body part, it can use a counter that doesn't show up, but will set the other parts to having the same stats, if you want. You might want to let heroes weaken the defense of one part and attack of another.
And basically the brain of the boss is the body, once it's broke you should have the other parts follow and have the boss status set to the body and the other parts set on "die with no boss".
