Day Three:
Ugh, I take back everything I said about 2 weeks being a long time. It's really only dawned on me that this is another one of my ridiculously ambitious projects. Luckily there are things that can be cut.
I spent a lot of today mucking around with my script preprocessor (which I didn't original want to use), encountered and fixed an HSpeak bug, and wrote heaps more utility code before getting started on the real coding.
I'm going to take a break from the game for two days.
Master K wasn't around; he reported (today, start of Day 4) that a storm cut the power all day. (He could just post here himself.) I didn't know what to suggest he work on anyway.
Day 4 of Ichy and Sdratchy:
Not a very productive day for me. Didn't really manage to do much with the remaining part of the design. At this point I've decided it'll just have to come to me later and I moved on to planning on the coding. Have a pretty good idea of how I'm going to do this. Discussed some ideas with Ichiro tonight, the plot of the game is starting to solidify somewhat. He'll be moving on to starting on sketches for the designs next.
The whole two weeks things creates a false sense of serenity. Have to shake it off. Get it done as fast as possible.

Day... 4? 5? of Team Wake Me Up Before You Momo:
Find it interesting how everyone is charting the same trajectory. You feel so good at the start, and then after the first 48 hours and the novelty wears off, reality sets in. Gotta be why 48 hour contests are so succesful, you don't have time to think about how much you hate your game or how much time you have to work on it.
Did a good job of dividing my attention today, did some work on each project. Really need to be covering more ground every day on this thing. Really need to start on the gameplay systems too. They're gonna take time to test. Graphically, I think I'm almost done. Not too many challenges left, just some additional tiles and fluff that I could do without in a pinch.
Still no contact with Momo. Good thing I enjoy a challenge.

Day Four:
I said I wasn't going to work on the game, but I ended up brainstorming ideas for mechanics and adding to the design doc anyway. I think properly prioritising stuff is critical so we end up with something playable when inevitably we don't finish. Guess we really should be trying to strip things back to the essentials from the start instead. Haven't heard from K today but sent him my new thoughts.
Tomorrow must try harder not to work on the game!

Day 5 of Ichy and Sdratchy:
Work elsewhere has been busier than I expected. I really shouldn't have signed up for this contest. Previously in this contest I ended up working way harder than I should have with multiple days spent doing nothing but the contest game. But I just can't do that this year. Even though this is probably my favorite game idea I've had for this contest, I can't justify it.
Tomorrow I'm going to talk with Ichiro about cutting the game back dramatically. Possibly even a total scrap and re-do. He hasn't done that much yet (though I hear he was starting some visual designs today) so I don't feel that awful about it. It's either that or just withdrawing.
Update: You know what I only -really- need one solid day of work to do this maybe I don't need to cut back....

Day 6 of Ichy and Sdratchy:
Started day off by drastically simplifying one of the systems to make project more manageable. Ichiro wasn't fond of any the visual designs he came up with yesterday. Started to work on slice layouts for various components. Breaking tradition, I'm not going be a coward and will show you all of the goods this year:
In order to further reduce my workload I also gave battles over to Ichiro so I can focus on the scripts.

Day 1 of Gomocop:
At this point, I have given up on Momoka. I doubt he's going to show, and if he does he's gonna be too late to get with the program. I'd had high hopes for training a lackey, but I've had nearly a week to think about it and honestly, I just don't think it's gonna happen.
In many ways, this is the best possible outcome. Now if I want to quit, I can quit without shame. If I want to perservere, I look all the more badass for doing it. I don't have to compromise with anyone, I can do whatever the hell I want.
But I'm still kind of bummed about it.
Still fixing and polishing maptiles. I want them to be super cozy, no surprises, by the time I actually get around to the game scripting. I also remembered that I had done graphics for the project mentioned in my avatar, a project that's totally cancelled. Might as well use it now!

It's Over:
Momoka pm'd me and asked me if it's too late. I think that it is. If he wants to put something together and enter on his own, he's got my rubber stamp of approval. Anything he does is okay with me.
I feel guilty working on something on my own when he's back and theoretically able to work. I feel guilty telling him that I'm tired of playing catch-up in this damn contest and don't want to team up again just to have a 48 hour caliber game that is gonna look like a piece of shit next to what the real teams managed. So I'm not gonna do either. Going back to my day job.
For all intents and purposes, I'm out.

Day 7 of Ichy and Sdratchy:
Got some proper script work done. Not as much as I'd like, but plenty. Most of the rest of the work (really all of the work) is just get-through-it type stuff. Ichiro wasn't around today, but that's ok because I knew it ahead of time. Worried that he hasn't done too much real work yet, but neither have I really? At some point one of us needs to hit critical mass of having some actual game to look at so that the other one realizes that shit has gotten real and they need to follow through and I'm not entirely sure who is going to do it first.

Darn, without Giz this is going to be a whole lot less interesting.
Day 6:
Finally succeeded in doing nothing.
Day 7:
I wrote down a long, long list of features that I'm responsible for, then decided with a little discussion with K what to cut and what to put into the "bonus" category, none of which I expect to get around to.
Features done: 4/60 Bonus features done: 0/12
This looks bad, but the counts are starting from today and not including everything done previously, and many of those 60 are pretty trivial. On the other hand I haven't included what K's doing, like all the graphics, item design, enemy design, nor balancing, sound effects, etc. I timed myself; 3 features in 5 hours. Largely debugging my stupid manual string allocation. Master K has continued working on graphics and design of dungeons, items. On his side the only things I'm worried about are the enemies and having too many maps.
Sadly after that great start to the day I went on a ludicrous sidetrack and spent nearly the whole day working on the engine instead. The allure of adding convenience features to everything was too much (I blame it on the 2 week time frame). I even switched to using the new text layout engine for text slices, which I've put off for years because it was too daunting a task. I've run out of stuff to do on the engine now.

Heh, yeah. That's what I think is really going on. Unless it's not... Or are they? Gah! Confusion!

Day 8 of Ichy and Sdratchy:
Got a whole bunch of the scripting done. Will probably be entirely done with it tomorrow and be able to move on to content. Ichiro didn't do anything. I asked if he wanted me to take the battles back since I got the scripts done faster than expected so he can focus on the graphics, but he kind of disappeared. Hope he gets back soon. Here's a new screenshot of the game actually functioning:
Don't totally love the menu but eh.
