couple questions about android

Will the "mouse" have true 1|1 movement with touch pads, so if I were to release my finger and press somewhere else will it follow? I found after playing a few dosbox games on Android that the mouse acts as a separate entity - forcing you to drag it instead.

If I wanted to test my game and see how well it works, how would I go about doing so?

On the topic of dosbox: dosbox turbo allows you (with the addition of a few files) to play older Windows based games (like Fallout and Jedi Knight). I haven't tried it personally, but was wondering if it might be possible to get custom to work this way?

Yes, the mouse works pretty nicely with touch-pad. When you lift your finger and put it down somewhere else the mouse will jump over there. The strange behavior you see in dosbox is something they did specially for dosbox.

There is value to handling the mouse that way for some games (ScummVMV has the option of doing it that way too), but if we wanted the mouse to work that way on the OHRRPGCE/Android port, I think we would have to program a special mode for it.

The only really big weakness of the OHR's touchscreen support is that there is no multi-touch right now. The mouse only tracks a single finger, so pinch, zoom, and two-finger scrolling are currently impossible.

if your game is almost done and you are ready to try out real packaging, contact me my e-mail or PM, and will walk you through it. However, if you just want to test, you can install a generic copy of ohrrpgce-game for android. There is a kinda old copy here http://hamsterrepublic.com/tmp/ohrrpgce-game-android-debug.apk I'll try to update it soon. I have really been meaning to get a Android nightly WIP build set up.

I think the only Windows games that DosBox will be able to run are the Windows 3.1 games, and maybe a handful of Windows 95 games.

I seem to remember we have actually already successfully compiled an Android version of ohrrpgce-custom, but it was a huge pain in the slime to use because of no mouse support and playing badly with the virtual keyboard. (unless maybe you use a bluetooth keyboard, but I don't have one, so I have not tried.)

I suppose that you were wondering about using Custom on a tablet? It's not really something we're planning for.

Just tested it myself and it works great. I was really hesitant about relying so heavily on mouse input, but this puts it to rest.

I suspected as much about Custom - just wondering about a 'desperate' workaround. Thanks for the info guys!
