Started in 2013 as an obscure contest by James Paige, and for some reason taken over by me as a monthly ordeal, welcome to the 2014 edition of Work-on-yo'-game Weekends!
This being the first weekend of the year, it's sure to be a zesty time. Or people will still be too enthralled with their new Christmas toys and such to bother. Only time will tell!

Starting this Friday, January 3rd 2014, all the way through Sunday the 5th, post your project progress here! However minor it may be!

Interested in the original ordeal? Check it out here:
WOYGW 2013

Additionally, if someone wants to make a banner for this event, feel free.

I'm not working on anything OHR-related right now, but I did join the Make A Good Level X contest over at the Talkhaus and download the engine for making said good level.

Water! Ghosts! Being a newbie! Odds are stacked against my level ultimately being good, but I've got all month to try. As of today I think I'm satisfied with the length, but not with the fun-ness.
Remeber: God made you special and he loves you very much. Bye!

Take a note from Sonic the hedgehog and go with visual spectacle if you can't get your level to be as fun as you want, but you still like the level. You know, snowboarding down a mountain top at level start and being covered in snow via sonic 3 + knuckles, or zipping through pipes top-speed. Heck, loop-de-loops. I'm...uh, kinda assuming you mean platformer level design. That's the game design I'm best at, many years experience. I'd say as opposed to RPGs, but I've been on it since 2009 now. But yeah.

Sorry for not speaking yesterday about this thing's presence, but it IS the weekend of working on your games. Sad how empty it's been, though. I've been dealing with back problems and life stuff, so no updates from me, but I am curious about the progress of others.

Here's the most recent screenshots of my work this weekend.

See the album here:
http://s931.photobucket.com/user/sheamkennedy/slideshow/Video%20Game%20Project

-I drew up a crane
-I made a nice cloud animation
-I began making my left and right character sprites
-I began wall mapping
-I teamed up with a screenwriter to help guide my games storyline and help
with story continuity and character development

Today I plan to finish character sprites and alter some of my scripting so it works with the tall character sprites.

Sounds to be shaping up pretty nicely

The new thing for Super Penguin Chef: spices.

The judge likes spicy food, but you want to make Mac and Cheese. What do you do? Try adding some chili! Spices can not only modify your recipe's score; they can also change some of the recipe's properties. Unlike ingredients, spices aren't consumed when you use them, but you will still have to locate them.

If you have ideas for spices, let me know.

Tumeric, Basil, and Five Spice are my favourite seasonings.

Dried Jalapeno, Dried Green pepper, meat powder, cheese flavoring, citric acid, just for starters. And speaking of starter, how about tartar? Cinnamon, the winnah mon.

I got work done on my game this weekend as well!

There's not much to look at yet graphics-wise, but a decent chunk of the plotscripting has been completed.
Current features include:
- Pixel-based movement
- Being able to talk to NPCs
- Zelda-style exploration (including a minimap)
- Textboxes have been altered to fit inside the screen.

I want to play this game. Please finish it.

I've been working hard on my game. I'm not sure if anyone will like it, but they will at least have to admit that it took a lot of work. It features a huge world packed full of things to interactive with.

I expect to be done in early February. Now what to name it...

I dig the minimap, really brings me back. I'm excited to play this on that feature alone as silly as that may be.

Before bed I finished these character sprites facing in all directions with fluid walking animation:
