Anybody who actually has heard of the ohr that wasn't told by me outside of the ohr community think the entire community was a bunch of furries. Not hard to see why when the most popular games for the thing tend to be about furries.

You should actually look at the top downloaded games here and the highest ranked games because this isnt even remotely accurate.

You think this site's game list dictates what people outside the ohr community think lol

I think it's possible, at least arguable in his context. Wandering hamster, FFH, Walthros, etc. Furries everywhere~

Yeah, the "highest ranked games" list is pretty much going to be a bunch of inside-the-community opinions (since you need a SlimeSalad account to rate games in the first place, and I doubt many people are going to download a game or two and then go through the trouble of making yet another forum account they'll probably never use just to leave ratings on them)...

...but on the other hand, "most-downloaded games" probably says a lot about what games are known outside the community, and by extension what the outside-community people think of the in-community.

I know I definitely remember hearing about tons of people in Brazil downloading Surlaw Armageddon and Darkmoor Dungeon (I think it was those two, anyway) a while back and shooting those two games up toward the top downloads for a while, for example.
It doesn't account for games uploaded on other sites outside of the OHR community (which seem to be more common now than they used to be), but as a measure of "what people outside SlimeSalad download from SlimeSalad" the download counts are probably a pretty good indication.

====

As far as "furryness," I always got the impression that there were just a few well-known furries around here and the rest of the community was mostly made up of a whole lot of non-furries. It's definitely not the furriest forum I've been to, and I'm not even a furry myself so I don't go out of my way to find furry-populated forums or anything.

Aside from a few really well-known games featuring "furry" characters (Sword of Jade, and I guess Vikings sort of counts even though most of the focus is on the humans and Cthulhu's gang of tentacle/blob/fish monsters from what I remember) and Nathan Karr's games, I can't really think of too many "furry" games off the top of my head...

At least not any that really register as being "furry games" to me, rather than just... games. All the Bob the Hamster games, for example. They do feature humanoid critters, but I doubt people generally think of them as "furry games" so much as just general "cartoony-style games," or the OHRRPGCE's equivalent of a "company mascot" type character (something like Mario, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, etc.)

I guess I'm technically not "outside the community," but I'm inactive often enough that I might as well count. XD

You bring shame to us all. The only way to fix this is by playing it immediately.

The music was also very good at the time the game came out, but apparently the creators did a rerelease where they replaced the ripped tracks. I don't know what they've been replaced with, and I'm not going to find out because Sword of Jade just isn't Sword of Jade to me without my sliming Mr. Bungle songs.

I prefer the original tunes to the ripped ones/replaced ones, although a few legit tunes got hit with this update too, including that one boss tune that also appeared in Vikings of Midgard.

I'm pretty sure I put that one back. There were ones I accidentally deleted because my documentation was incorrect.

Also, it's fitting that Sword of Jade threads still end in derailment.

The most current-est versions will always be at these links now:

As long as Fyre is reading this thread, I should probably point out a pretty glaring bug in the latest version of the game. Namely, that TrueSight now kills *everything* in the game in one hit. You're going to want to get that checked out.

Probably an engine bug?

Also, I finally got around to adding that ability to copy map layers which I had promised months ago. Sorry about that.

There was a bug in the engine that made some attacks instantly end battles / 1HK when it updated the .rpg file. That should be fixed in the latest version. I'll take a look again though.

I've been away for a bit. Had three bad teeth pulled in december, which took me out for a while (plus crunchtime at job)

I can't remember that very well. It was triggered when some new attack options were added, in late 2005 I think (and probably on some other occasions too). I know I worked on fixing it, but it was tricky to tell whether an .rpg file was so old that it needed to have the new attack data wiped clean or not. But I'm not sure I ever finished. I can't find much in the commit log.

I had to fix it manually. AFIAK, it only affected attacks with really low id numbers. Truesight is way up in the multihundreds, so technically should have been safe.

If any attack in the game could be affected.. oh boy

Luckily I wrote an rpgbatch script to scan games for garbage attack data, which now acts as documentation of the problem.

http://lists.motherhamster.org/pipermail/ohrrpgce-motherhamster.org/2013-April/016349.html

It appears that I never added anything to handle this problem. However, only a few games were affected, which is probably why I never got around to it. I found that only the first 15 attacks in SoJ contained garbage. So the problem with Truesight must be something else (it could still be data corruption, but it would be from a different source).

If it turns out the problem is more widespread, would you be able to make a script that turns off any feature implemented post 2005 in the RPG file?

Because if the corruption is functionally random for me, the amount of work required to get it all correct again would be quite the load.
