I've played the fuck out of this game. I've got to say, it's one of my favorite games for OHR, and the one I take the most inspiration from, and I think it show because I keep making promises to get a game finished and yet I never do. Lmao!
So, the good things about this game. Like Spoonweaver mentioned, the graphics are very good, and there are a lot of them. The enemy sprites are all unique and interesting to look at, which really helps makes battles fun. I mean, I think Squaresoft has figured this out long ago with their Final Fantasy and Romancing SaGa games, but battles are clearly more fun when you have boobs to look at. The music was also very good at the time the game came out, but apparently the creators did a rerelease where they replaced the ripped tracks. I don't know what they've been replaced with, and I'm not going to find out because Sword of Jade just isn't Sword of Jade to me without my fucking Mr. Bungle songs.
Now, my favorite thing about the game is the time system. Your main character starts off the game with a suicidal depression that will kill him within a matter of days, and you have to stave off his impending doom by filling him up with good feelings and (eventually) getting him laid. In addition to the natural passage of time, you use up time when you hit the gym or take a nap, and you gain more time by completing main quests and side quests.
And speaking of side quests, there are a ton of them in the game. And they're not like those shitty WoW side quests where you have to go into the woods and kill twenty bears and collect their pelts. No, these are side quests where you go into the woods and kill ONE bear. Or you go into a cave and kill ONE dragon. And then you never have to kill that dragon again. I think that's what makes the side quests in this game so great. I think MMORPGs can learn a lesson or two from this game. But anyways, I think this game strikes a perfect difficulty balance with its time limit and side quests. You can rest any time to restore your party's hp, but you still feel pressure because each rest uses up a bit of your time. At the same time, even if you start running low on time, there are enough side quests in this game that you can fill your time bar back up relatively easily. You're constantly feeling pressured, but you'll never feel like you're stuck in a dead end.
The cons of this game? The creators are arrogant jerks. Please discuss further.
