AR-PUH-GUH! gamma version

Being remade from the ground up due to the thing kinda falling to bits near the end of 1.3beta's life, here comes AR-PUH-GUH! version1.0gamma!

Things achieved in this version include a major spriting update, a major balancing due, less grinding at the start (preferably no need for real grinding at all), all around more smecksiness, and even a drastic drop in file size.

The grand epic of AR-PUH-GUH! returns with whimsy!

Any questions, comments, or suggestions? Post them here!

May as well put in info for classes yet to come in AR-PUH-GUH!.

Blaster - A biomechanical creation of mad science that has turned out for the better, these large frog-like creations store up air to prepare for their many breath attacks which drain all EP upon use.
*still in progress of how it will work out

Chestling - Once known as "mimics" across the land while treasure chests were big, these creatures have formed a peaceful alliance with the sentient races of the world to never prey on travelers. They specialize in using money and some other valuables to attack and perform special techniques.

Naturalist - Dedicated to a sacred way passed down in hidden lands, if they were to wield or wear any sort of manufactured creation they would lose all ability. Though their equipment choices may be limited to sticks and dirt clods, their natural stats make up for it. They can use items harvested from slain monsters to perform techniques others could never fathom, thus evidence of their sacred way.
*super still in progress, as they will be based off a different stat calculation from normal party members. There will be two kinds, Humanoid and Mutant. Mutant will have slightly higher C.Def, and Humanoid will have slightly higher P.Def

Tournsol - Sunflower people. I currently don't have much on these folks.

In order to deal with character limits, and the need to show off gear stats, I've made icons to represent stats.

New gameplay...type...thing:
Metal plates fastened with screws with circular screw holes.

Serves, essentially, as nothing more than a type of door you need a certain type of key to remove. However, you can equip it's key, the Magic Screwdriver, to humanoid characters. It's a light-weight weapon that gives a dandy boost to the ??? stat.

These metal plates will seal of treasure and entryways to deeper parts of dungeons. They will appear in factory, laboratory, and other various "man-made" dungeons and areas. Mostly dungeons.

My first look at those symbols made me think something glitched and your font was overlapping itself. It seriously took me a second to realize that they were actually symbols because of how close they are to the text. Perhaps make them smaller, or rather than thick circles, use just the objects? Also, isn't using a "symbol" for letters kinda redundant?

the P symbol represents Physical, C Chemical, and E Energy.

It'll look weird in weapon and gear description to just have
Quote:
(Pwr symbol)+1 P+3 A basic sweater vest

edit:

Sorry about the break, had to go do something.

I'm thinking of doing custom letters to cope with the problem there, as I really don't feel like un-bubbling the stuff.

Here's a pic of the new font, ist it to thy liking?

I basically felt like working on it since you brought up the issue.

Another update tonight? Why, yes!

I got the new Energist walkabout sprite done.

And here's my other walkabout talked about in my general log thread:

Berserker

Warrior

edit: I might note that I forgot to finish the details on the warrior sprite. You can see the finished product for yourselves some other time.

edit 2:
All in all, tonight I got done a few things. First is a concept for a locked door type, not that many really care. Second was probably my personally favorite one, custom font. I feel sorta proud having made it. And then besides the Energist, I also got Portalist, Cyborg Humanoid, and hat-wearing humanoid done too, along with starting on merchant humanoid, and even battle sprites for the starting form you're in for all of, like, 10 seconds. Why? Because, that's why.

It's for use against green lanterns.

...

Though I suppose that's not actually the case in this game, heh.

It's a tier 2 element.

There are 2 main tiers, and 2 minor tiers of elements.

tier 1 is Fire, Water, Electricity, Wind, and Earth

tier 2 is Yellow, Green, Blue, Red

tier 3 is All Elemental, and Black

tier 0 is white

Fire is weak to water, which is weak to electricity, which is weak to earth, which is weak to wind, which is weak to fire.

Yellow beats green, and I forget what tier 1 elements it resists, as it's in an ancient notebook of mine. all the tier 2 elements are that way.
yellow beats green, which beats blue, which beats red, which beat yellow.

All Element beats all lower tier elements, but is weak to black

Black defeats all except white.

And white is weak to all, except black.

I can go into detail on this system more if you want. It's an elemental system made almost a decade ago for a card game I've been working on since high school days. This, of course, is a slightly modified version of the system which will remain in tact even for my card game.

That was kind of a dramatic solution, wasn't it? You changed all the font to fit in with your element symbols rather than vice versa?

Anyway, they still seem to kind of overlap one another. For example, Health bleeds into Earth bleeds into Electric etc. Also, they still kind of bleed into the regular letters, too ("C" bleeds into ??? for instance). It's all vertical now, though, rather than vertical + horizontal.

When you look at the font in the editor (I'm assuming you drew these free-hand in there), you'll notice that most of the letters leave a 1x1 space along the bottom and right edges. You should just cut off the bottom and rightmost edges of your symbols and they should "fit in" better with each other / the rest of your font.

Here's an example I found on the website:

Shrinking them by one pixel shouldn't change them graphically too much. They should still be able to stay bubble-fied.

Good idea, and I thank ye, but the symbols touching other symbols is sorta intentional, but their touching of text wasn't. Also, shrinking the bubble will interfere with some of the symbols, unfortunately. I'll see how it looks sometime, and if it looks neater with a slight shrinkage, then I'll keep it. But yeah, thank you.
