It's that kind of game.
This is a review of Rouge's Revenge.

Pre-Thoughts:
No idea what the hell this is. It's a Sonic game which makes me very nervous. Sonic fans generally have no sense of what is good or bad and are... just really weird people. Why couldn't it be more Kirby?

Thoughts-During:

Oh man, this sprite tries so hard to do the Sonic running animation kind of thing and in two frames it does not work.

This might be one of the few times in history someone has actually meant to type Rouge.

..I'm actually grinding for levels in this thing, what the hell is wrong with me

Thoughts-After:
This game is kind of short. The battles are very poorly balanced. The plot is non-existent. I do think the "Recharge Stations" which are really just inns are a nice addition, flavoriwse. You trade 100 rings (GP) for a full bar of health. You run right and the battles get harder until you get a chaos emerald, then Shadow shows up with the rest ('cause the author didn't wanna make more maps I assume) you fight a boss, YOU WIN! Not a whole lot on display here.

Music was ripped but fit pretty nice. Rouge's walkabout was a noble attempt to capture the running kind of thing Sonic did. Doesn't work well, but I approve that the guy was trying to be faithful to his fandom. Shadow's sprite is absolutely awful. The backdrops are random colors.

Basically, I wouldn't recommend this unless you're really nostalgic for when the community was full of Dragon Ball Z fan games. Kinda reminds you of those days gone by. Dude musta had some chops for some of the stuff he did, and he obviously was enthusiastic about the source material. Might've liked to be able to save my progress though, even if it was short.
