Super Penguin Chef (Hyper Bugfix Edition)

To prepare for the influx of reviews that accompanies the review contest, I've uploaded another bugfix release for Super Penguin Chef. This version fixes some issues using items in battle, text display problems, dungeon vendors, and probably several more things I've forgotten.

If you're interested in seeing a full release of Super Penguin Chef and would like to support its development, please consider helping out in one or more of the following ways:

• Play the game and give your feedback. Aside from actual content changes, this version should incorporate the last round of feedback I got on the game. I could really use your opinion on the current state of the game, whether it's bugs or criticism. (As a bonus, you can put this towards the review contest!)
  
• Suggest special events. The full version of SPC will have events crop up randomly. Examples might include "famous restaurant critic visits town," "gold golem sighted in the Orchard of Doom," or "Hogg goes on a spiritual journey to find new ingredients." These should generally be good for the player, or represent opportunities that the player can choose to pursue.
  
• Donate your musical or graphical talents. Mystifyingly, I got a lot of negative feedback on the game's graphics. I don't currently plan to give the game a makeover, but I would be very appreciative of a more talented artist's touch. As for music, I'd like to have rights to all the songs in the game so that I can eventually port it to other platforms.

error 1 - if you choose to learn about Equipment from the information...mole?, the text box "I don't use weapons, though, owing to my lack of appendages" has the mole's portrait rather than the snake's.
Following that, the text box "so... you're saying that we should buy everything. for everyone. thanks, I guess?" has no portrait at all.

error 2 - if you press Esc to close the menu for the help-desk mole, it'll keep the text box up and then run into the ingredients text box speech. I suggest a "never mind" choice to just close the menu and disabling the esc function.

error? - in the second round of the first contest, both judges stated the exact same thing for my dish (they enjoyed it) and then both said the same thing AGAIN (different comment, though, they didn't like the other team's food)

coincidence? or error? you decide.

I'm enjoying myself so far.

error 3 - I chose to learn B-Saver for Hogg Wilde, consumed power gem, didn't give skill...
this makes me sad

error 4 - Carrot(bottle) says "healthful MP restorative", but it targets HP

annoyance report - Stache' Cannon is an utterly broken boss, I die in one hit even with PlateMail equipped

error? 2 - I found Bombillion in Candyland, and it has a battle background of the Orchard.
also, the Bombons just keep saying "3..." and not going anywhere past that. I can help you make a countdown attack, if you want.

Bombillion can't possibly hurt you, and there are no random battles, nor are there any prizes behind bombillion.

ALSO!!!!.....I'm kinda getting annoyed with how many things make Chef's Surprise. Doth one need ideas for recipes?

error? 3 - the event that's supposed to take away 800 money for the debt thing is not a thing.

Judges shouldn't repeat comments on the same dish, so that's a bug.

Did you have the same problem with the other ultimate skills? I forget how exactly I coded the menus for skill ups, but it should probably be an easy fix...

Thought I fixed Carrot Juice. I'll give it another look.

Stache Cannon is untested, and the third and fourth dungeons are not meant to be complete yet.

Do you mean that the payment event didn't deduct your gold or that it didn't happen at all?

I've only the lone power gem, so I've not tested with other ultimate skills.

and the deduction didn't seem to happen at all, as I had only 600 or so money before the day was up, and I failed the cooking competition because I couldn't make anything other than chef surprise so no money was had, so 800 wasn't taken away like it said it was going to.

Oh, I should also mention -- if you feel like a certain combination should produce a valid dish, you should also mention that here. (It should be obvious, but Chef's Surprise is what you get when you put in a recipe that isn't recognized but isn't bad enough to be an Inedible Abomination.)

I don't mind adding dishes that are similar to existing ones (for example, the game already has Orange Beef and Orange Chicken), but I won't use multiple recipes to create the same dish, and I won't include the recipe for your mom's delicious apple pasta that no one has ever heard of.

I found the issue with the ultimates. None of them works right now, so save your Power Gems.

lol, I was JUST about to confirm the power gems not working.

And here are a few things I say add:

chicken alfredo (chicken, pasta, milk?)
chicken patty (dough, chicken, tomato or cheese)
salad (vegies, fruit, cheese?)
Beef Stroganoff (beef, noodles, ?)
chicken/beef fried rice (beef/chicken, rice, vegies)

May I also make some suggestion as to, maybe, random folk who give a few recipe hints depending on the day that roam dungeons?

edit: huh, the chicken stir fry seems to work...I guess I must have chose something else on accident last time, prolly fruit.

on off-chance, me and the other team, I think, had a draw, and it stopped after that.

Chicken Alfredo and Beef Stroganoff already exist with the recipes you listed. Chicken and Beef Stir Fry occupy the recipes you listed for fried rice.

By "chicken patty," you mean something like a chicken burger? There's no recipe for that currently, but it's a reasonable dish to include. Another salad recipe would probably be a good idea, too.

I can't find anything that would cause the game to freeze. Can you check your g_debug.txt for the time when you were playing?

I also can't see anything wrong with the loan shark code offhand. The first payment is 500, not 800, so if you had 600, then you should have been fine.

Not to mention I'm in the game already. Only seen myself once, though.

Oh, and mogri, is there some sort of chart you have for the recipes? I suppose I could make a ...a.... *shudder* spread...sheet... of the possible recipe combos, but I'd need a list of all the ingredients in the game. I'd like it for ideas on not chefs surprise to suggest.

There's no chart.

The ingredients aren't a secret. They are Dough, Cheese, Sugar, Milk, Eggs, Tomato, Pasta, Chocolate, Beef, Rice, Fruits, Veggies, and Chicken. From those 13 ingredients, the game has 48 recipes (including Chef's Surprise and Inedible Abomination).

I might run a full recipe-by-recipe breakdown someday to explore every possibility, but that's an effort for another time.
