I notice no one has taken my dare for reviewing my game. It's not terrible, I swear! Even I play it for fun here and there!

Released games without screenshots scare me off.

*was this updated since I reviewed it?

Yes. It received an update for Heart of the OHR 2012. Reviews should at least cover the latest 2012 versions of the games in cases where significant updates were made later in the year. (Of course this creates a somewhat sticky situation with many reviewers not playing far enough in most games to even see the newer content to evaluate it. But even so, I'd suggest reviewers at least try another play through of the newer version and add an addendum to their existing review. In the particular case of FDL, it sounds like the opening had significant changes so it shouldn't be much trouble.)

Game #3: Super Harem Builder 2012

RMSephy's entry in to the Terrible Games Contest fits the bill. Super Harem Builder wants to be an amusing flash-style harem simulation game, but it feels too contrived and repetitive to appeal to the player beyond a couple of minutes.

In general, games like this boil down to parameters. Just little numbers you watch go up and down like money, score, the girls' stats and whatnot. Unfortunately, Super Harem Builder doesn't present these parameters in an engaging way, and to make matters worse the RPG-style combat feels out of place. It doesn't help that these battles are basically down to random chance, can take up a whole lot of time, and distract from the sim elements of the game.

Maybe SHB would be more fun if it were funnier or had more enemy types and weird situations you could come across. Instead, it just feels like a bunch of menus and the same jokes repeated over and over. The stripped-down, first-person perspective does nothing for the game. It wants to capture some of the wit of the Mother series, but fails on too many levels to do so. Overall, it's a sad little game that could have been funny at the very least.

Review: Towers of Love and Energy
I tried to play it, but I faild and gave up soon.

The „Story“
You play a girl, who has to climb to towers, one called the 'Tower of Love' and the other called the 'Tower of Energy'.
The first NPC I met was a talking cat head, wich reminded me of Alice in Wonderland. I could not make much sense out of the NPC's talk so I went into one of the towers.
The NPC cat-head inside the tower works as a mulifuctional shop. You can equip, buy, sell and save the game. I bought some equipment, but that did not save me from dying inside the tower fighting monsters that were much (!) to strong.

The Design
The walkabout graphics are nicely drawn, the battlebackdrops are somewhat, well... you have to get used to them. The enemies I met were intresting, for example I liked the guys with foots instead of heads. They fit to the bizare theme of the game.

Conclusion:
This game still needs a lot of work to be playable and good, especially the battles.

But the game seem to conatin some jokes at least.

2012 In Review - 003 Killertriforce007 Ephixial

Review: Killtertriforce 007's Ephixial
Pre-Thoughts:
God, I just watched JSH stream this the other night and I can't remember anything about it. killertriforce007 is a cool name. This file is huge, so I'm expecting a decentish sized game, maybe something with a good soundtrack. The description on CastleParadox is terrible, doesn't give any clues as to what I'm in for. What's Ephixial even mean? Is it just something that sounds cool? Lots of time for pre-thoughts on this one. Might even take a nap. Oh! This is the Minecraft guy. Not looking forward to fighting chickens, but maybe there's something JSH missed. It always irks me when guys review the game and they debug key around nad through everything without paying any attention to what's going on.

Thoughts during game:

Include a damn game.exe! You want to get people into your game as quickly as possible, don't give them any excues or opportunities to back out!

SERIOUSLY, include a damn game.exe! That way you can also guarantee that your game will work the way you intended it to! Control the means of distribution people, jeez!

A war between the living and the dead? Badass!

Is this really a Back To The Future midi turned into an ogg? I can't decide if that's awesome or not.

And the Zelda medley from Smash Bros Brawl?! WTF

Damn these battles are slow.

Potions heal WAY more than the 25 HP they say they should..

Post-thoughts:

Not as weird of a game as JSH's stream mmade it seem. It's definitely incomplete, there's definitely a lot of weird choices and dialogue and stuff, but I dunno, it's kind of alright. You can run from msot of the battles and if you have a knife the chickens aren't that tough. Did get stuck in the cave: that part was weird. Battles are definitely on the "This stuff can kick your ass" side if you don't run away, and if you don't have a knife for the chickens. Story's all over the place. The Minecraft screenshots the dude uses for backgrounds is actually kinda cool, and you can't tell me you wouldn't have tried the same thing if you had the opportunity. His enemies and hero graphics are ripped but they fit together okay. Killertriforce knows his way around the OHR, I mean he disabled debug keys for christsake. I think he should keep making this game, see where it takes him. I wouldn't advise anyone to play it just yet, because it's in that sweet spot of like... normal weirdness. It's too normal to be a joke and it's too weird to be taken too seriously. With some more zaniness, or better balanced battles it could eventually turn into something fun. Right now it's just a curiosity. Where the hell'd this guy go anyway?

Review: Abel
I don't like militrairy stories/settings, so my judgement may be biased.

The Story:
You are a soldier working for an army called Abel in a futuristic cyberpunk world.
You wake up and are advised by other soldiers/scientists about game play secific things. A nicely done tutorial.
After the tutorial you can talk to other soldiers living at the same lab(or base?) like you.
Your boss tells you to get to know your comrades and by asking around you also get to know the story of a lost license. But after that I couldn't get any farther in the story.

Design:
The scenery is rather held in dark colors like black and green, but the game itself isn't to dark, thanks to the use of gray floor tiles. Even the textboxrs use green colors, the text is readable but it's a bit like you have to get used to read the green text.
The walkabouts look diffrent from what I'm usually used then playing ohr games, they have smaller heads and longer legs, so they seem to be more „grown up“ or less anime-like.
The perspective fits the settimng as well, thoug sometimes it dose not fit the walkabouts, but it's still good, if one considers the large amount of work.

Conclusion:
The game was surely a lot of work. The graphics are fitting the atmosphere.
There are some things that should be fixed thoug, like NPCs not responding and broken passability, so that you can walk on roofes and throug walls.
Also, the game is far from being complete.

Posting my first batch here. This year I'm focusing more on my personal preconceptions, biases and feelings than on historical context.

Reviews so far:
001 SDHawk's Pilgrimage
002 Willy Electrix's Dreg Sector
004 Charbile's My Little Gahn
005 Fieron's Hamburgerman RPG
006 Spoonweaver's Clam Digger

Probably won't be keeping up this pace, but who knows. I've loved reading everyone else's so far, let's keep this up. Oh, and Review #3 is a few posts above this one.
