I haven't been in the mood to do much of anything lately, so I'm probably going to be dropping. Maybe.

We'll see, I've been very VERY "meh, why bother trying to live, I'll sit here and do nothin'", but I may suddenly catch inspiration. It could happen.

I started out strong and put a lot of time in, and I have a concept I'm decently happy with, but I'm also working an insane amount. I may also have to pull out. We'll see how the next couple weeks go.

I'm trying to emulate the old Gameboy look a bit so what I'm doing with a few tiles is splitting them up into four 10 by 10 mini-tiles and reusing those mini-tile pieces again in other tiles.

I like that idea. The old gameboy graphics really bring back good old memories of portable gaming in the 90s.

For those unfamiliar with the original "meh.", the objective is to TRY and deal with as many awful, ridiculous customers as possible before your sanity gives out, and hope that whatever ending you get is (hopefully?) a good one. I always said that at some point I would revisit this game and try to do it the justice it deserved by adding in a greatly expanded selection of random customers, and so I've been trying to add in at least ONE new horrible customer every DAY.

Expect surprises!

Isn't manila folder spelled with one "L"?

But otherwise, looking forward to it!

Yeah, I remember seeing James play the game back in, I think, 2010. I figured you were doing some sort of RPG and you just had the ability to visit that store for referential humor. But a sequel is interesting enough, is this 20 years later when Fenris gets out of jail? Or is this based on a different ending? The world may never know!

Most people around here call them "Vanilla Folders"; call them by what they ACTUALLY are and you're bound to get a few confused looks!

Think of the Rebuild of Evangelion movies, and you wouldn't be TOO far off from where this is going. Grin

Update day! I've got MORE screens from meh2.0 whether you want them or not!

We've seen THIS scene before, but this time it plays out from the other side of the counter...

More TERRIBLE customers have been added to the rotation. This particular evangelist won't stop until you listen to what he has to say! ALL OF IT!

Sometimes, friendly customers may appear in your store, who will chat it up and might even restore your sanity! Consider these guys a blessing!

Sometimes there might even be references to other games that aren't so immediately obvious!

And remember! The ending you get will be better the higher your score is! How do you get a high score? Easy! All you have to do is

Side by side comparison: I darkened the skin tone a bit and tweaked a few of the characters (e.g. the Ninja is now wearing her headband properly and the Wizard's robe is more detailed). I'm not sure I love the semitransparent party box -- that might get changed back.

These old screenshots are brought to you by the fact that I have no new visuals. Any day now, I'll get started on actual battle testing, but today was all maps, maptiles, backdrops, and other stuff that's not quite ready to test.

Not going to be using these in my game, but I did a little practice with some ripped FF6 stuff I found and "converted" to "8-bit" with the fill tool.

Notice how they're still pretty awesome, even with most of the colors removed. If you get the basic shapes right, the amount of colors you have doesn't really matter and your game can still be beautiful. I'm almost definitely not entering at this point, but good luck to everyone who does!
