I'd rather have the crappy OGG versions

Those who have played any of my games or most OHR games on Windows 7 must have experienced the dreaded crash when the MIDIs loop, so I'm thinking of creating a music-free edition when I sell this to solve the problem. I would still release the version with music so the player can get the full experience, but would have to caution that it could crash. The only other alternative to fixing this glitch would be to convert the MIDIs, but a couple tunes turned out even worse than the MIDIs, and I can't find a sound converter that's better/free (using Switch File Converter). Would you be okay with no music, or music that's slightly ruined through conversions?
I think you should switch to ogg. I have been meaning to do the same for myself for Wandering Hamster.
I bet there are better converters available.
Personally, I use timidity on Linux-- it doesn't do a great job by default, but it lets you load your own soundfont, and then it sounds wonderful. A good soundfont is the key to a good midi->ogg conversion.

Any way you could add an option in OHR to convert MIDIs to OGGs, much like it already does for MP3s to avoid the licensing fees?
That would be a cool feature, but unfortunately I have never found a good soundfont that is free for us to redistribute together with the OHRRPGCE. The free one that comes with timidity works, but it is rather crappy.
I am not an expert on this, but I believe that when you use a soundfont to play/convert a song, you do not need any special permissions to distribute the song. It is your song.
But if you want to distribute the soundfont file itself, then you need permissions from whoever owns the copyright on the sound font.
So yes, I believe that using the Chromium soundfont for your intro song is totally okay.

Just chiming in to say I've taken several media law classes and this is absolutely correct.
Well, I managed to convert all of the themes into .OGGs, and the ones that were missing notes, I simply used soundfonts for or reworked them so they would show up. The only problems are that some of the songs may be slower than they used to be and may have long pauses between loops, but I guess they won't crash OHR. So unless it does crash, there will not be a music-free UW now.
