If it is your own game, just mail it to me, and I can crack it for you.

I recompiled a version of UNLUMP awhile back which basically allows me to see the game's password in plain text. The program just checks to see if the plain text password you just entered matched the decrypted plain text password, and just before the password prompt, I print out the decrypted plain text password. This password can then be used in CUSTOM. Obviously I never released this out in the wild, I mainly used it to see what makes some more interesting games tick. Some devs here have created some insane stuff with this engine, and seeing how it was painstakingly put together is really neat to see. I haven't used it in recent memory, and I believe I actually lost the compiled file.

If you understand a little bit of programming, you can download the source code for UNLUMP, and modify it to print out the password before the INPUT statement. Then mod the graphics to your liking. I used UNLUMP only because it compiles much quicker than CUSTOM and it's a command-line tool, so printing something new is trivial.

I think this is a great idea. It is very similar to what I did with the Hamster Wheel, though that also included centralizing game-specific reviews, threads and additional content.

I wish I wouldn't have shut it down completely, but glad to see something similar being done in its place.

Oh really? I only know a little CSS and some HTML coding. Not a whole lot. Smile

Although a python function to check a game's password is perfectly possible (and nohrio might already do it) passwords are *very* easy to crack, so knowing it is not sufficient proof of game-authorship.

Shhh. -- I thought the password used a one way hash of some sort.

This is true! ... but even as a one way hash, it is still super easy to crack! Smile

Also, sorry if I necro'd this. Sad

Have you tried getting in contact with the game's developer? Most people here would welcome an artist updating their graphics. They will likely let you into the game and perhaps release your new version and include you in the credits.

Retro memories emerge! Bio-electric resonance!

I dunno, for some reason this talk about some old game is makin' me want to put some things in strange 60s japanese-type movie titles style. I'm gonna read this article.

Speaking of hamster speak and the lack of hamster burrow, it's a tad disappointing to not have some blog or something goin' to bring us reviews, tips, and game info.

edit: and then I made a pretty version of one of the monsters depicted in the review

(to the mushroom pirate person whos name escapes me right now, you can use it if you want)

Exactly! I actually like this game and I think it deserves nicer graphics! Sad

I am so glad that I'm not the only one upset by that glitch that won't let you go any further!

Another thing that kinda irked me was that it wouldn't show the custom names ya pick in the text boxes when the heroes are talking. :/
