I am working on a game for iOS and Android, and I would love to have some help playtesting it.

You can download the installer for the Windows playtesting demo of the game here: http://HamsterRepublic.com/dl/bob-the-hamster-dirt-dig.exe

You can download the Mac OS X playtesting demo of the game here: http://HamsterRepublic.com/dl/bob-the-hamster-dirt-dig.dmg (Only works on 10.6 or newer)

The Android playtesting apk is here: http://hamsterrepublic.com/tmp/BobtheHamsterDirtDig-playtest.apk If you test it, please let me know the name of your device, and which Android version it has installed.

Please report any troubles you have with it, both in gameplay, and in the level editor

There are only a handful of levels right now, I intend to add lots more.

I also have a website for it set up here: http://hamsterrepublic.com/bobdirt/ but there is practically nothing there yet

Oh! Also, if anybody wants to record and post a video of them playing it, I would really appreciate it. Watching someone play (especially for the first time) would be very helpful for identifying places where the user interface is confusing.

I'll try this out tomorrow, I think. It will give me a good chance to try out my video recording stuff!

By the way, I have an Android phone that is bare-bones and tiny, so it might make a good testing ground for lower end phones. Let me know if you want me to test it there Grin

Here is the Android playtesting apk http://hamsterrepublic.com/tmp/BobtheHamsterDirtDig-playtest.apk

So far I have only tested it on a Motorola Xoom tablet and a Nexus 7 tablet, both running Android 4.x

In theory, it should be able to run on any version of Android 2.2 or newer, but I strongly suspect it will be too slow to be playable on older phones.

If you test with an android device, please tell me the name of the device, and (if you know it) the version of Android it has installed. I need to start building a list of supported devices for when I upload it to the google play store.

Is this only for phones/tablets/iWhatevers or is there a regular computer version too? I want to play Bob the Hamster's version of Dig-Dug, but my phone is the kind that would probably explode if I tried to play a game on it (if it was even possible to put games on it in the first place, anyway.) XD

Yes, Android and iOS are my main targets, but I have a testing version for Windows too. The link is in the first post.

Oh, whoops... somehow missed that part. I'll try it out the next time I have some free time.

Cool, downloading windows demo. Did you use mothermaster for this? I saw python listed while it was installing.

It is using python with the kivy library. Motherhamster development has kinda fallen by the wayside.

Cool. I'm curious to see how fast python runs.

Still almost no feedback on this... Are people having trouble downloading and installing it? Is it crashing for people? Please speak up!

I edited the first post and added a link to download the Mac OS X version. The Windows and Android versions have also both been updated.

Ah, crap, I forgot I was supposed to test that thing for you. I'll get on it later this morning when I wake up. And crikey, it's already 2 in the morning, I should get to bed.

Video of first playings

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhZJCjQ8QJE&feature=youtu.be

Fun game so far. Feedback!

- The text box is kind of intrusive for the game space. You may want to make it dismiss once the player touches the screen again, no matter where they touch.

- I don't know how but right clicking puts down red circles and then I somehow ended up in a state where left clicking zoomed the game in and out instead of plotting the path.

- Cabbages should trigger a push animation from Bob

- It'd be nice if Cabbage Beetles had some sort of animation or tell for when they're going after a cabbage instead of Bob (like a ! above their head)

Thanks for the video, Fyrewulff! It is really helpful to be able to watch somebody else play.

I agree about the text boxes, I need to make them close as soon as you do anything, but I also need to add a way to recall and review a history of textboxes for the current level

The right-click red-circle thing is actually simulating a two-finger touch. You can left-click on the right circle to remove it. I need to leave it enabled for now so I can test multitouch stuff without having to push to a mobile device, but I do need to figure out how to disable it for the final Windows/Max/Linux versions.

I had planned a push animation for Bob, just haven't got around to drawing it. The Cabbage beetle cabbage-lust animation is a good idea, that had never occurred to me, Thanks!
