Growing the Community

I assume it will take a bit of time to get a bunch of things together. However, there are already a couple open sourced sprite collections available in the community in the form of rpg files. I assume these could be added to the database without any issues. Also, vikings is completely open too and could possibly be put on the database too. On that note I'm sure some people would be willing to crack open their games and contribute, but they may need to see said database first.

Nope, I've been drawing some stuff over the past few days. I'll post them in one big post rather than a bunch of smaller ones though. It'll make organizing easier I believe.

Meowski, I'm gonna be straight with you: I don't think those graphics are going the kind of thing someone wants to borrow. That's not to say they're bad. They're fun looking and have a lot of your personality in them, but people who want to rip graphics want something more generic. Why do you think every RPG Maker game looks exactly like Pokemon?

In my opinion, if you want to do your best to attract people to the OHR you should make a game with those fun, Meowski style graphics and advertise it on every message board you frequent. Let 'em know how easy it was and how much fun you had.

To anyone else working on graphics for this, I'd give the same advice. Try to be as generic as possible, so someone looking to make a game will be able to make something that looks like "a game" and not like a "Meowski" or "Spoonweaver" or "Gizmog" game.

One never knows.
I still plan on release most, if not all my enemy sprites for Merciful Mungbeans for public use once it's out. Those are more generic in their own right, though they face the player, because they're meant for a "first person view" window for the game. I shall also release the generic background template as well, so that others may use it for their games.

Keep in mind, gizmog, though generic foes may be a great idea to at least start with, some more interesting and unique ones will be what separates us from the others in the end, and will make us a more memorable site

edit: final time I'm editing this, and not for correcting grammar this time, I'll draw a handful of slime foes, if you truly want generics. I can't really think of an RPG that doesn't have a minimum of one slime foe.

Just advice, I don't have any authority. Do whatever you want to do. Releasing the stuff from your actual game is a great idea. I just wanted to make sure you weren't slaving away being creative on this off-beat stuff for everybody else to use. Playa gotta put himself first

I could imagine people using some o' these as generic monsters, especially since that robot was made with "generic 50's robot monster" in mind, what with the glass dome and all that. I sorta had the "lost in space" robot in mind.
However, I couldn't imagine this guy being re-used though:

I feel like putting a bunch of these slimes I sketched into sprite form. I suppose if anyone wants a bundle of slime/blob monster sprites, let me know.

Are you really setting up this sprite database? I love this idea.
You could include the tilesets I'd send to hamster speak. But honestly I don't feel like I can keep up with your drawing skills, guys.

Is there a way to keep tack of the progress?

Would it be possible to set put a section of templates (for sprites) as well?
So you can alter them easily to make "your own" sprites? Maybe Stickfigures or just outlines of heros?

Hey, that's not a bad idea. I'll see what I can do about setting up a template of sorts. Can't really promise anything amazing though, my forte is tiles, not sprites, hehe.

As far as this thread goes, let's discuss other things that we can do to grow the community.
I've just found that Wikipedia's list of game engines doesn't list the OHR even though OHRRPGCE does have a wikipedia entry. I went to add it in, but I wasn't actually sure about the answer to some of the questions that ask about the engines so I felt it might be better filled out by someone who does know the answer to such things. Here's the list:

How about adding information about the OHR to other game engine lists despite wiki?
In Illarion they set up a list to manage where to update or add information about the game, we could do the same about the O.H.R. or was this already done?

I know there were youtube videos about the OHR and about some game's gameplay, but I don't know if many people find them.
One could pick a good game and ask someone well-known to review it?

Is there data how people find/search for the OHR? So we know what they are looking for.
