Revengeance demo is up on PSN/XBLA and it's incredibly good even if the objects you cut have zero weight to them. A chandelier you cut down should not slowly drift down and then bounce off the ground with no impact.

Parrying is incredibly important, especially in the boss fight, and feels great. Fights are quick and end badly for either you or the enemy in little time. No wasted time at all. It feels good in every way that the DMC demo felt bad.

Its only major flaw is it's over too soon.

I know I'm harping on SSX, but I got to the last mission...it was super hard and I had to go to school, so I turned off my game. This morning I turned it back on and my SAVE GAME WAS DELETED argh I am so mad. I don't know what happened, but apparently I have to start from scratch now. ARrrrrrgh this game is putting me through a rollercoaster of emotions.

Oh my god, Meowski. That is the cheatingest game on the Gamecube. The last time I played that was like the week after it came out, and I was doing the last big "Race on every track!" cup for the last goofy unlock or whatever, and on the very last race, I only needed to finish 6th or better to win it all. I have played war games where fewer things tried to kill me. To the day that I die, I will never forget.

160-159.

SEVENTH PLACE.

That game is dirty rotten megaslime.

Holy crap that exact same thing happened to me too. Last race on the big everything tour, only had to get 5th or 6th or something, and ended up getting hit with so many purple/blue/whatever shells that I got 7th or 8th. It was horrible and I immediately disowned the game.

I'm just slightly colorblind when it comes to purple and blue, it seems, so I can't tell the difference as well. Your TV sounds awesome though.

Dark Souls: Just beat Ornstein and Smough with all characters. This fight... this god damn fight - ugh. This is another boss battle that really shows advantages/disadvantages of each class. Either way, if you're playing a Thief, and relying solely on crits and bleeding, good luck, because they are rare if not nonexistent for bosses. I had to spam Ornstein with dung pies, and then dodge every incoming move until he finally fell, then repeat with Smough. I think I wasted a few levels worth of souls just in purchasing dung pies.

I definitely feel more skilled going through playing as different characters this time, as each has a different play-style, so you get a more rounded experience. Playing the Thief definitely hones your parrying, and the Wanderer your dodging. Some classes require you be quick, others slow - you learn a lot about patience and timing.

I think the only build I've never really tried is a faith-heavy Miracle build. Faith scaling weapons don't sound too great!

I'm currently playing Revengeance and it's pretty spectacular in every way.

Yeah, I heard the PC controls were pretty borked. I'd look into picking up a controller if you're looking to enjoy it. The game is definitely worth it.

Is there a defense against Faith (divine/occult), or is it lumped in with magic? So far, the Faith build is pretty useless anyways as most miracles available at this point are pretty worthless: Homeward, Heal, Great Heal, Force, Emit Force, and Seek Guidance. Homeward is nice, but eh - the heals can only be used out of battle - Force is somewhat useful in the right situation, but otherwise leaves you open for attack - and Seek Guidance... well... yeah. They all basically rely on you being desperate enough to use them.

If you're playing Dark Souls with a keyboard, absolutely ABSOLUTELY be sure to get DSFix and a mouse fix.

Well that was quick, finished Revengeance in under 5 hours my first time through. Great gameplay, disappointing length especially with how loaded the last 1/3rd is with bosses and cutscenes and no real exploration.

Nope. Most of the patches are by third-party people.

DSFix is here: http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/mods/19
Mouse fix is here: http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/mods/28

I think DSFix fixes the resolution and frame rate of the game, and the mouse fix makes the game playable with mouse+kb.

At the suggestion of msw188, I'm playing Dragon Quest IV. I'm playing the original NES version (emulated on my DS) and it's pretty cool. The best thing, though, is that I have a fast-forward button to make the game significantly less tedious. Blasting through random battles feels really great, and I think all games should do this rather than make you wade through them. Of course, this game is like twenty years old, so I'm pretty forgiving of its faults.

But yeah, I'm up to the third chapter (Taloon) and I just bought a shop. Not sure if I should be grinding for money at this point or what, but I do know I need 65,000 gold, no small sum. I'll probably grind for some random equipment to sell in the shop, and hopefully find some broad swords/plate armors to give to that one guy who wants them. This is gonna take a whiiiile though...

Also got the SNES DQV on the Wii (don't ask) and so I'll probably play through that later.

Huzzah old-school gaming!

I finally got Fire Emblem: Awakening for my birthday, hooray!
How many other people have gotten it so far?
How many have beaten it?

Now, for something more specific: how many Awakening players have come across this shrimp?

That there's Donny - or Donnel, whatever - the embodiment of the "patience is a virtue" type of level grinding attached to at least one character per Fire Emblem game. Starts at level 1 in the worst class ever with a lance in a map full of burly axemen that would tear him to shreds. It's the player's duty nonetheless to somehow squeeze a level-up into him before finishing the map. Following that, it's a slow, boring grind up to level 10 (or 15 if you want an extra skill for him) as his excellent growths bring him up to par with the rest of your team - well, not quite par. By the time he caught up in level with my team, he was still lagging behind in stats, in spite of his growths.

But the second you use that Second Seal to shift him into a new fighting class, it's treated like a full-on upgrade, and Donnel's stats get a massive spike. He's sent back to using the weakest weapons, but he dominates the competition nonetheless. I changed him into a Fighter and was quite surprised how he instantly outclassed my first Fighter, Vaike, who I'd actually been investing time and exp into. He's currently a powerful, speedy, defensive, and skillful one-man übermensch.

If you were somehow already aware of Donnel and simultaneously somehow thought that he sucked, you would be quite wrong. I suspect he will be a lifesaver in the harder difficulty modes.
(I maaay need to abuse the DLC map with tons of high-exp-giving enemies that barely fight back to make sure Donnel survives up to his promotion.)
