Hi! I'm not sure if there's a thread for introductions. If there is, then I didn't look very hard. Sorry. I'm new here, and I thought I would introduce myself! I've been messing around with OHRRPGCE for a few months now, and I figured I would hop on the SlimeSalad train, since I occasionally look at your forums. So hello, and welcome to meeeee!
Greetings, young squire.
We welcome thee into our community of merriment craftsmen and women, and general nonsense and shenanigan making.
We look forward to your adventures with the game creator, and invite you to look upon some of ours, such as AR-PUH-GUH! and Merciful Mungbeans.
With shameless self-promotions aside, we look forward to thy works. Please don't feel intimidated by the old pros that hang around, as everybody starts from somewhere, and feel free to share thy experiences! -Sir Meowskivich the Mighty

Well, thanks! Oh gosh, screenshots... I'm terrible at graphics :/ I just don't have the eye for it! Or the patience. But I'm trying to get better; I've been studying the Vikings' graphics as well as a few other ones that I really like, trying to understand the style. I've come a long way, but they still look pretty terrible! That being said, I love the scripting! And I'm fairly good at it, I think.
Yeah, graphics can be tricky at first. It definitely takes a lot of practice to get very good at it... but if you keep it up you should be able to make decent graphics eventually. (Try comparing the graphics from my old crappy game The Kirby Lands--most of which were made 12-13 years ago--to the graphics from pretty much any of my more recent games for a good example of how much things can change with a lot of practice, heh.)

*and then meowskivich realizes that it's been 13 years since 2000*
Don't worry about graphics not being good, I can scrounge up some old screenshots of a game I was working on years ago that I abandoned with much malice, but that may cause temporary to permanent blindness.
And if you want brain cancer that originate through your pupils, I can scrounge up an ancient unseen image of some things, but some might be lost forever, for good reason.
Moral of the story: don't be afraid of your work, if you're utterly terrible, look at things this way: you can only get better. ;)
OH! And if you want some practice and perhaps want to get into the community a little quicker, why not join us for The 2013 Week Long OHR Random Colab Contest?
It'll be good fun.

Sir Meowskivich, thanks for the screenshots-- I feel much better now. Haha! Just kidding
As far as the contest goes, it looks amazing! And sounds like a lot of fun. I'm not sure if I should register for it though, as I'm fairly busy right now :/ Also, I'm not incredibly experienced with it yet, so I should probably sit this one out. But thanks!

While I'm not a fan of making graphics, I love building maps! And definitely the plot scripting. I'm by no means a pro at it, but there's no end to the pride I feel when I go through one of my cutscenes, no matter how amateur they are!
As far as weaknesses go, again, the graphics. But I also need to work on my dialogue and NPCs. I'm constantly surprised by how difficult it is to make a town or a castle to feel alive.
All in all, I'd have to say that my favorite part about it is realizing all of the little, seemingly easy things that go into games, that I never noticed before. It's amazing!
As a side note, I've recently discovered layering. I've been doing things incredibly inefficiently, it turns out!

The magic of layering helps, no?
I use layering in my games mostly for common icons, such as treasure chests and buildings.
Don't forget, if you're playing with layers in the map editor, you can press ctrl+J to set the current layer to"jiggle", which jiggles the current layer a few pixels back and forth while you edit so you can tell if something you have is on your layer or not.
And don't forget, as well, that you can press f1 to pull up help menus. Just...in case you didn't know.

If you want to see something terrible, play my first try at graphics and balance, BattleQuest RPG. God, that was terrible. I even had my real name posted with the game for a while, and I was horrified and removed it as soon as I discovered...but six people downloaded it. Six people know my real name...horrors...and I'll never know who they are.
