SDHawk & Master K day....Five?
Started working out the map. Started out by planning the overall structure, revising some of the previous planning of yesterday. Most of my time was spent trying to figure out the ideal solution to a certain quest, but was still met with unsatisfactory ideas. Moved on to the actual proper design of the map. It's coming along, most of the housing area is complete.
As a team we don't exactly have the best communication I guess. MK isn't around that much, doesn't really notify me what he plans to do each day, and hasn't done too much on the game as far as I know since Saturday. It's not so much about what he does or doesn't do, as it is simply knowing how it's going.
I'm used to regular conversation with my partners, which makes it easy to solve each other's problems, and I'm not really getting that here. Even besides that, without regular contact it makes it hard to know for both parties what is happening where.
So it gives me an uneasy feeling I guess, like I need a contingency plan for everything since I'm not entirely certain what he can or can't do, what time he does or doesn't have, when any thing will or won't be done. Maybe it's just as much my fault for not communicating these concerns clearly enough, though. We don't have a rapport yet, is what I'm trying to say. (I feel a little weird conveying concerns like these in public, but I also kind of think the establishment of a team is big portion of the contest and maybe worth documenting. It's as much a part of the challenge as making the game itself.)
I'm still a part of this, and I'm going to ride it out until the bitter end. I'm juggling school life, a weekend long festival, and other things besides. I entered this contest long before I knew of these things, and I didn't want to go back on my word.
It's too late to go back. There's only forward for me and SDHawk to move.

SDHawk & Master K Day Six
Fortunately MasterK is a responsive team mate to concerns, so I feel a lot better about the state of the project. He got some work done today, though I unfortunately missed him on IRC. My schedule is admittedly not the best for his time zone.
I got the maps done. They took longer than expected.. this game is rather nerve wracking in that everything ties together, and if you get one thing wrong it could ruin the whole thing and be rather difficult to fix. Four days remain. The next day or two will be the most important, because they determine whether the rest of the time will get spent refining or spent catching up.
It's certainly enough time to get everything I need to do done, though I'm worried I might not have enough time to crank out the soundtrack. Slightly regretting my own over ambition. Always slightly regretting my own ambition

Master K & SDHawk, day Seven
As if you hadn't noticed from the other team's silence, we're at the nose to grindstone portion of the contest here. Sadly my progress was slower than hoped today, but it's not impossibly behind just yet. Master K has been trucking along with solid progress. Going to be a tough final hours of contest. I might have to make some cuts.

Team Gizchiro, CRISIS LOG:
Production was going well yesterday, until a discussion with SDHawk's pestersome cohort Master_K revealed that neither of them had ever heard of Bananarama. I was shocked. I talked about it with Ichiro, and he was shocked too. Two citizens of the first world who've never heard "I Heard a Rumor", who'd never heard the greatest cover of "Venus"? Had they failed us or had we, as a culture, failed them?
We didn't know. But we knew we couldn't let it go unaddressed. With eerie resolve, we flushed all our previous work down the drain and began in earnest on a new project, to address our cultural shortcomings; Cruel Summer: The Bananarama RPG. God have mercy on SDHawk and Master_K, and God have mercy on Team Gizchiro.

Just this morning, I was trying to remember the name of the artist that did the song that Pepsi Ranger used in the introduction to Entreprenuer.
The answer is of course, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGYNvx9lqDQ

Long story short, it turned out that both Mari and I were more busy with school stuff than we had anticipated, and the game was more ambitious than it should've been. It's unlikely that we'll finish anything before the deadline, so consider this our official notice of dropping out of the contest. :x

Wow, the 80s were more ridiculous than I remembered. Maybe I don't want to remember.
If we're being fair, that song actually shows up in two of my games: the midi version of the song also plays during the Sandy Smack Island maps in Powerstick Man.
Fun Fact #1: "Cruel Summer" was the theme song used for the original Karate Kid, which is exactly the reason why it shows up in Entrepreneur. The fact that the lyrics pretty much describe the plot behind Entrepreneur (minus the coffee references) just makes it sweeter.
Fun Fact #2: The Giz is obviously the only one who will care about this. Years ago I was given a free copy of Bananarama's greatest hits on CD. They actually had enough songs to make a greatest hits album. I'm a little surprised that they've vanished from earth so quickly that most of the people on this forum have no idea who they are. Maybe that video is the reason why no one remembers them.

I'm not too surprised to hear Fact #2, pretty much everyone had a greatest hits album in the late 80's, but I'm as shocked as you are how quickly they washed-up. I remember seeing their music video for "Venus" on MTV constantly... AND IT CAME OUT TWO YEARS BEFORE I WAS EVEN BORN, so they had to have some kind of appeal that just totally dried up overnight. Weird!
Unfortunately, that brings us to the real topic of this post and something my esteemed partner has just touched on:
Team Gizchiro, CRISIS LOG 2: THE FOR REAL ONE!
Through what we're going to call a Major-Mutual-Communication-Malfunction, or MMCM for short, Ichiro has believed me to be working on the actual game file all this week, while I've believed him to be working on the game and been curious why he hasn't needed more art done. It was easy, and very cool, I'm sure for both of us, sitting there and imagining that the other guy was doing all the work. We are now faced with a massive game of two-man catch up.
It with heavy heart that I ask you to all lower your expectations. Remember, that any release of Team Gizchiro is now a miracle of its own and should be treated as such: Not as a tragic reminder of what could've been had either of us been sociable enough to ask the right questions. If you're one of our numerous esteemed opponents, please learn from us. Call up your teammate right now, and ask how it's going. Ask what they think they're doing, ask what they think you're doing. Ask if they know of Bananarama, and given the gravity of the hour, maybe even The Go-Go's. Don't let what happened to us, happen to you.
Sorry to hear that team RMSario has fallen. We might be joining you sooner than you'd think.
