Bob's Vacation

Okay, simple question, simple honest answ-- AAAAAAA! predator-prey flight-response! You attempt to jump out the window, but are stopped by the grubby plexiglass.

The Yellow Submarine Line train continues rumbling through the Arts District, en route to Downtown and the Seaport.

"Whoa, take it easy, Bob." says Miss Mara.

Uh... what I meant to say" you say, after catching your wind, "Is that I am going to the bottom of the ocean! On a Boat!... I mean on a submarine, but on a boat first, then a submarine, but a real one, not a train like this. For science!"

Miss Mara replies "...Wow... really? That is impressive!"

You aren't sure which part impressed her... The Science maybe?

But then, the submarine breaks down, forever. So everyone has to get off the train.

Because of giant clowns on the tracks.

Darnnnn those giant clowns.....

A scratchy loudspeaker blares "Giant Clown Station, Transfer to I-Am-The-Walrus Line. Next stop, Downtown."

"Oh, this is my stop." says Miss Mara.

take tracking device from cheek pouch and somehow discretely as possible attach it to Mara so as to make sure to know when she's coming...

Abandon plans for the ocean vacation and chase after Miss Mara, You Fool!

But you've already said you're going on your vac... er, business trip. Just stick with the tracking device; it's already sketchy enough.

In any case, when is the boat scheduled to depart, anyway?

You have only exchanged a few words with Miss Mara, but somehow you don't want this conversation to end. Is it because of that unexpected compliment? Because you embarrased yourself with the window? Maybe it is the fact that she actually smiled at you. You can't remember ever seeing her smile before. Every time you walk past the accounting department, she seems to be scowling.

You try to think if you have anything that could help in your cheek pouches, but you don't even have paper and pen to ask for her number (nor your phone for calling it!)



"This is my stop too!" you lie, and you hop off the train. The boat isn't supposed to leave for about 2 and 1/2 hours...

Ask her what she's off to do?

You ask Miss Mara what she is up to.

"Mailing unemployment paperwork" she says, "And then dropping off resumes"

Tell her that you're actually hiring for a new business you're developing, and ask for one of the resumes. While trying to stifle the gasp caused by learning just now that she doesn't work with you anymore.

You are astonished to learn that Mara is no longer your co-worker. Before you can babble any nonsense, she continues...

"I am glad you found a new job so quickly, Bob, and something so exciting! It makes me feel more optimistic about my own job-search."

She then scribbles something on the back of one of the resumes, and hands it to you, saying "Keep in touch!"

And then she walks away.
