I also really, really think we need a full wiki style database of games for anyone to edit. Yes I know there's one that's part of the official OHR site but it's not really used.
I totally agree. I also think we need a wiki containing bits of plotscripting and other useful examples. That's outside of my expertise though.

Advice: Do not use the blog to broadcast community drama... Keep it about the games, not about the forums. Be very willing to revoke someone's posting privileges if they're horrible.
This is exactly why I want to start a blog. Jumping right into the forums is a bit harrowing for newbies, and while community drama can be a good thing and create change, it's also scary and drives away legitimate newbies. I want to create a way to elevate the best, friendliest parts of the community and basically ignore the interpersonal stuff altogether. Like Venus Patrol does with indie games in general vs. the TIGsource constant trolling and drama. High aspirations, I know, but I think we can do it.

Not to brag but part of the reason HamsterSpeak worked well was because of strict moderation. Rejecting completely unreadable reviews, or working with their writers until something good came out of it, was important.
I agree entirely. I loved that HamsterSpeak was a pedestal on which we placed our best and brightest pieces of the community, as pompous as that sounds. I think I'll keep it heavily moderated by myself until I can get a handle on the scope of the project and some dedicated co-bloggers to help out.

It's rewarding to see a community flourish, but there is a huge amount of crap you have to take with the good.
This is good advice to anyone starting something with community involvement IMHO.

I think having it moderated by someone who ISN'T a huge part of the community is honestly the best idea. Someone without and biases or grudges held by or against them will have a much easier time.
This makes me feel a bit better about being a habitual lurker
Alright, I think this sounds good. I'll get this started by the end of the week and we'll...figure it out from there.
RE: the mascot, does it come from a game? If so, I'd like to ask permission before using it from whoever made it. Otherwise, I like it enough to just start with it.
God this is getting wordy...but anyway I've used wordpress.com for some time and it's flexible enough to get this running with some nice themes and stuff. I'm broke, so I ain't paying for anything out of the gate, but wordpress.com works very well for me.
