Posted progress of this over at CastleParadox, might as well post it over here!

I've been talking about making this little solo project for some time now. Finally settled upon a working title, "Mecha-Nix", I'm getting started with map / graphic design.

I hope this will turn out better than the (still in progress) Doom RPG, as I'm making numerous changes that detracted from the DmRPG's fun, such as:

-Confusing map design / confusion between floors and walls.

-Unbalanced gameplay

-Grammatical / Spelling errors.

---

I'm in the process of making a simple hubmap for the game, just to start off. I'm not talking about a broken-map hub, like in the Doom RPG, where views were always being messed with, but a single, large map.

Care is being taken in making the new maptile arrangement, as this isn't going to be near as bright or as "Fast-paced" as the Doom RPG.

---

The game will use the normal level-up system for the OHR, but I will change around some stuff and set it in stone before beginning, that way I don't change my mind later on down the road (which, again, was a serious problem with my Doom RPG development.)

---

The earlier story written for this is being scrapped, while SOME elements of it are staying, including government conspiracies, Nanotech, etc.

---

I'll ty to explain the story a bit here, as it may need future polishing and revision.

It's nearing the end of the 21st century, and the world is at the verge of collapse. Entire cities that were once free are turned into police states. People are beaten, mangled, sometimes killed. Some say that these civilians are taken to 'secret governmental locations', to be assimilated into mindless, unthinking power-slaves.

You were once one of the unbelieving folk that thought of this as a simple conspiracy, and that people were overreacting. But then you see around you the further institution of a corrupt power. One particular afternoon, they come for you. Just like the stories you heard, you're beaten down and dragged away. Blindfolded, silenced until you reach your destination.

They mark you with their sign, and throw you into one of their so-called "District centers". A primitive 'society'. Step out of line once, and you're put to death. Families are separated by these, never to be seen nor heard from again. This is the New World Order.

What seems like months pass by. You're awakened from your nightmare-filled slumber by the sounds of gunfire, screaming, silence, then a banging on your door. At first, you fear. Fear that they've come for your life. What you see afterwards, is far from death.

Armored civilians, armed with primitive weaponry. They carry you from your resting area and through blood-streaked hallways, and eventually out of the area. Through the madness, you're knocked out, only to wake in their care, liberated from the Order.

These still-unknown rescuers treat you like one of their own almost immediately. They speak of a world free from the Order, and to bring down a supernatural entity which they call "The Illuminati", the head of the Order.

With only their downfall can the world return to peace like it once was, many years ago. Begin your training, and join your allies. Welcome to the next revolution. Welcome to the Mecha-NiX.

So there you have it. Basically a Mission-based RPG revolving around conspiracies, story, and other-worldly powers.

Hope this turns out better than the last project! : D

That is lovely. I like the added glare of light at the corner of the screen.
So, where in the world are we? Where is this base established? Will there be travel times to get to far-off mission locations? I'm going to take a wild guess and say we're somewhere miles beneath Buenos Aires.

I'm really curious about this one too! Glad to see you're addressing some of the issues with Doom RPG. Does "NiX" stand for something, like "N.I.X."? Will there be any date-able characters? Is that a jukebox or some kind of evil trash can machine? Are those toilets interactive?

@Bacon: As far as base establishments go, I haven't decided. I'll probably allude to its location somewhere in-game, but for now it is undecided. For far-off mission locations, I'm thinking of something along the lines of: You pay a specific amount of credits for THIS area ticket, which allows you to perform so-and-so mission in that area, in which each ticket has a certain cost, depending on how hard the mission / area is. There could possibly be two costs, not just monetary, to keep the player from advancing in the game too far. Say, for instance, some kind of all-powerful key that lets you into the final stages of the game, but it can only be obtained using different items / completing a super-hard mission.

@Char: The "NiX" Doesn't really stand for much of anything, I was just coming up with something to steer away from its 'original' name in a way (you know what I mean.) Dateable characters, I'm not sure. I'm sure there will be teammates in the game. Also, yes, that IS a jukebox in there. Gonna have to figure out the coding to get it to work, though. xD

And yes. Those toilets are interactive, and unlike the doom RPG, they make a sound. ouo

When I see this I'm somewhat (and fondly) reminded of Dr.Strangelove, and the fab quote:
