2014's almost done so I'm posting some stats, everyone loves numbers right??
Hopefully I'll get a couple more done before the year's up. I've really dropped off here and I feel bad about it. At least I can say that a lot of the newer game reviews are good and thoughtful while a lot of the 2012 ones are just brief looks? My movie reviewing has been pretty consistent. They're also all a lot better than my game reviews.
Game reviews:
2012 - 72
2013 - 54
2014 - 35
Unfinished game drafts: 11
Movie reviews:
2012 - 6
2013 - 5
2014 - 6
Unfinished movie drafts: 21

Gone Girl Spoilers
I enjoyed this one, although it wasn't my favorite of the year. It's weird to think how badly this could have turned out with a lesser actress for Amy. I also really loved the sister, especially in that final scene. This is one of the only films I've ever seen that actually 'felt' like a book to me. Some of the little plot twists that I think might have worked better in a chapter-by-chapter format felt a bit rushed in this, I thought. The one that comes to mind is when he's about to tell the media about the young girl on the side, then she's on the news at that moment so he's screwed, THEN he suddenly gets the idea on how to give the interview to 'get at' Amy. All in the span of what feels like five minutes.
Interstellar Spoilers
I thought this was good not great. I made a post about it somewhere else. Loved the robots, loved the water planet, liked the main ideas and themes of the film. Loved the 'first handshake' turnaround, and the 'old-man-was-really-an-asshole' reveal. Great initial scene with Matt Damon there. But the remaining time with Damon was a waste. I don't care how many slimebucks you paid him, get his own asshole reveal over with and get him offscreen. Nature was the only villain this film needed to spend any real time on. This was the part of the movie that dragged for me. Especially since I had decided less than halfway through the movie that McConaughey (and maybe Hathaway) would be the ones to send the messages in time back to the daughter.
Birdman Spoilers
This would be my pick for movie of the year. I'm a sucker for the 'single-shot' trickery, but it's a great film regardless. Yeah Emma is great, but I'm really amazed at Keaton's all-encompassing performance here. That sequence where he ends up outside in the parade is borderline surreal, but he doesn't overplay it. There's something so real about his facial expressions and body language there, and throughout the film really. It ends up so sad, like I have to laugh or else I'll cry.
Hunger Games 3 Spoilers
Mostly the same feelings as Wubble Wobble, but I have to mention one scene. When Woody comes in and finally says what the audience has been waiting for (your propaganda sucks, need to get better at it), he goes through moments that JLawrence has had that were actually moving. Surprise, they were both from the first film. Boy, looking back on it, the second movie wasn't very good.

Interstellar: Ice Planet was absolutely the film's weakest act. I do find it really funny that the "bad" guy is named Mann though!
I was kind of mixed on Birdman at first and decided to see it a second time, and man did it play better the second time. Every little thing connects so well and there are so many weird little parallels that you probably can't notice on a single viewing, it's just great.

It's a good game for taking pictures, it was hard to choose the ones I used. There's a yellow Toad buddy in a bunch of stages who's always asleep and you catch his laziness and fall asleep too if you hang around him.

I haven't had much of a chance to put a lot of time into the multiplayer yet, but the little we played was solid. I imagine later on there's a lot of parts where the non-Kirby players don't have a lot to do, unless the Dees transform into junk too.

I love this.
This game is good too. It's a Not Souls that's a pretty good attempt.
