Eh, that's okay, I can place music where it fits, but I can't really make music all that well.

And your battle system sounds interesting enough.

Update 013
(ART) Poacher Sprite

He's green! I've decided at this point that I will end up using palette swaps in future chapters, with RED corresponding to mercenary fighters, VIOLET for imperial soldiers, GREEN for independent factions, and CYAN for the church militant.
I admit I've really been getting sloppy with these updates, I've got to pick up the pace. I threw this sprite together from a horrible doodle in a short time - the Poacher. I'm not doing a Bestiary entry for this one - it feels awkward to include humans in a bestiary - so I'll describe him here. Some of you may remember the Scout from Chapter 2, who was a quick attacker. The Poacher is slow to attack (but quick to dodge) and almost always makes his mark, occasionally with the effects of status ailment poisons. To make up for the not-story update yesterday, I'll include this dialogue from the third warrior's first encounter with one of them. This will only happen during the warrior's solo mission when challenging Mt. Garra during the day - poachers won't appear at night.
Quote:
???: You...
POACHER: Ulp... um, afternoon! How are you? I was just enjoying the sights...
???: You don't smell like... an ordinary hiker...
???: Empty your bags. What are you hiding?
POACHER: No-no-nothing! Nothing! No need to look, I was just enjoying the sights...
[The warrior advances, pushing the poacher until his back is to a cliff face with an empty nest in sight]
???: That nest wasn't empty earlier today. Might you have anything to do with that?
POACHER: Aaaaah! Nooooo! I won't go to jail, not after all the trouble I went through! These are MY eggs now, and I'll... I'll... !
???: Coward! This is what petty thieves like you deserve!
[Engage poacher in battle]
POACHER: Sniff... And I worked so hard to find those!
???: Quiet, coward! I can't stand people like you! Go home and cry to your mother, you pitiful, cowardly fool!

Not sure if it's just me, but he seems to be wearing a modern style military helmet? Also, the shading makes it look like the bow he's holding has a stock, like a crossbow. The shoulder pad doesn't help, as it the angle makes it look like a rifle or crossbow butt braced against his shoulder. Other than the helmet and the bow, pretty good. I like the stance, and how it conveys that he seems ready for battle. The way he's standing also makes him seem keen to attack, but cautious, and ready to jump out of the way at a moment's notice should he need to.
Being from the third world, I reserve the right to speak in the third person.

Haw, it does look like a crossbow, now that you mention it! I hadn't noticed.
It works out fine - bows, crossbows, and muskets are all used by various enemies in different chapters.
The helmet ended up looking like a 20th century aviator, which is a bit too anachronistic, so I'll probably redesign it to look more like this guy's helmet.

Eh, the crossbowish look only comes from the point of view in which we see the bow.

And don't get too worried about updating, we won't kill you too hard for it. >=D

Stills, I likes them updates.

Update 014
(MUSIC) Converting "51" to Midi

This one, I really didn't have any idea what I was doing with the sounds. If you played the FL version then you've heard the melody already, I'm just arranging instruments and switching up tracks. Still haven't gotten around to adding anything new. I really need to figure out which direction I ought to be going with these themes. This is probably where my lack of proper music education is starting to show - I don't know how to take an idea and turn it into a functioning song within a specific genre.

In the meantime, listeners, what does this sound like, what context can you picture it in? I may be able to work a second song out of this if the context is significantly different from before.

Update 015
(STORY) Like a Plague
Quote:
[In Rigging Bluff, before the adventure starts, the labrorer CARL arrives in town with an announcement.]
[As he dismounts, the stable apprentice CASEY receives him.]
CASEY: Carl, you're back already! What happened out there?
CARL: It's bad. Real bad. We can't do anything about it.
WADE: What's going on? Did something happen on the highway?
CARL: Brambles, lots of them. I mean LOTS. This ain't natural.
CASEY: I heard they've grown taller then houses in some places down south!
CARL: Yeah, and now they've stretched out over the eastern horizon. It's gonna be a disaster if no one can get in or out of the ports there.
[Jerry interjects]
JERRY: Can't you just burn it all?
[Carl spits on the ground]
CARL: Nope. Something's inside that mess of plants that's keeping it alive with a passion. It ain't burnin'.
CASEY: What are you going to do about this?
CARL: I've got some boys down there studyin' it to see if poisons or blades will work. We're makin' our next move tomorrow if they find out anythin' new.

[A village girl approaches the scene]
JENNIFER: Daddy? Daddy, are you okay?!
[She runs to Carl]
CARL: I'm fine, sweetie. We're doing just fine out there.
JENNIFER: You look so tired. Were you hurt? What's going on out there?
[beat]
CARL: ... Be a dear and make me some tea, would you, Jenny?
JENNIFER: Y-yes, Daddy!
[Jennifer runs back to her house]
CARL: This is shapin' up to be the toughest job I've ever had. Just thinking that a monster plant like that appeared overnight to block my roads makes me sick. I need a nap before I head back out.
CASEY: Of course. Stay healthy, we're all depending on you guys out there.
CARL: I know, I know...
[Carl walks forward]
CARL: ... Hey, you. You headin' north?
JERRY: Me? Y-yeah, actually, we were...
CARL: I hear the brambles might have reached the northern mountains. Might be they'll start more trouble if they're left alone. Instead of ogling my little girl all day, why don't you go check it out? The less I see your pretty face around here, the better.
[Carl leaves]
JERRY: ... Yeah, sure. Sheesh. What's with the evil eye?

Quote:
[On Mt. Garra during the day, Jerry, Wade, and the third warrior reach a high point on the mountain with a clear in-game view of the horizon.]
JERRY: Wow, check it out! I can see the ocean from here! A [???] by my side and a magnificent view before me... I can't tell you how happy I am right now, Wade.
[???]: What was that? I didn't hear you.
WADE: He was just... absorbed in the environment. The view is indeed impressive.
[???]: Is that what you think? Hey, Red, look a little lower and tell me what you see.
JERRY: Lower?
[???]: Like, to the base of the mountain range.
JERRY: All right, what's down there... ?
[pan the background lower to focus on a massive field of brambles]
JERRY: Aack!
WADE: No way... How did that...
JERRY: So many... Miles and miles... !
[???]: I know. I've been watching those accursed things for weeks, spreading like a plague.
WADE: I had no idea it had gotten this bad. We have to warn everyone in Rigging Bluff when we return.

I'm preserving a few details from here on out by replacing them with [???] when appropriate. These are just little surprises that ought to make the story more interesting as you fill in the blanks yourself while playing. I hope you all don't mind my keeping the third warrior's identity secret for the time being, I understand referring to people with question mark names can get annoying. I think it's okay in this situation since I'll only be referring to this one person as such; ??? will never refer to a second character.

I'm going to be switching up my update style next week from a daily subject rotation to a weekly rotation. Tomorrow will be an art day, and then the entire week after that will be dedicated to music. I'm hoping this will let me focus on bigger things that can't be completed in just one day while still having some tidbits to present there.

You don't need to limit yourself if you wish to update us sometime sooner than a week. Trust me, it doesn't end well if you have something you want to share but choose not to due to weekly restraint.

And as a suggestion for multiple character ??? names, you could also try ***, !!!, and +++, if need be. Just use some random symbols I guess.

And I can't wait for more arts!

Update 016
(ART) Trapper Sprite

Another human that can be fought on Mt. Garra in the daytime. If you've ever played Battle for Wesnoth, then you know just how annoying an enemy net-caster can be. If you get caught in a Trapper's net, then your speed and strength will be severely crippled, giving him and his comrades more time to beat you to a pulp. The third warrior will encounter one during the solo mission.
Quote:
[The third warrior examines a bear trap out in the open.]
???: A bear trap? Who in the world would put a bear trap here?
[A net is cast towards the third warrior, who dodges.]
???: Whoa!
[Trapper appears]
???: You! What do you think you're doing, trying to catch a human?
TRAPPER: I'm trying to get rid of YOU, obviously! Do you have any idea how much trouble you're making for us honest folk who live off the land?
???: You are all so conceited! How dare you talk as though this land belongs to you?! I'll never stop fighting you and your ilk, you who kill for sport and profit!
TRAPPER: We need these resources to survive out here, and we'll do anything to get them!
[A Scrapper appears]
SCRAPPER: {We're taking you out, two on one! You haven't got a chance!}*
[Engage the Scrapper and Trapper in battle.]
[The Scrapper steps on the bear trap mid-battle.]
[Victory in battle; the Scrapper and Trapper flee]
???: It's one thing to recieve nature's blessings and share them, but abusing these creatures while giving nothing in return is something I cannot tolerate.

*Will be replaced by a different line in-game.

Re:Meowskivich
I'm not limiting myself here. When I create more than I upload in one day, I just cherry-pick the best / most interesting thing and leave the rest alone for players to discover after I release the game. For the most part, though, I've actually been busy with work spending time with Avatar or Fire Emblem or Minecraft or Retsupurae and leaving myself very little time for Viridia, which is part of the problem.
My issue with daily rotation is the way it spreads my efforts too far and too thinly. For example, the musical theme "51" has barely been polished or themed or expanded at all because I can't get very much done on it in one day. By the time the next music day rolls around, I've gone and forgotten what I where I was going or what was inspiring me, and this takes a big toll on my creativity. My goal with weekly rotation is to start on something each Monday, then build up to something big and have a lot of concentrated work done on something tangible by Friday that will be both useful and impressive.

I wouldn't say the sketch is crappy, but it isn't the prettiest thing I've seen. However, I must agree that the trapper sprite is awesome.

No upload today. I tried working on "51", but ended up hitting a creative block and spent hours accomplishing nothing but switching some instruments around and importing a percussion track. Absolutely not worthy of uploading. It's very frustrating when my efforts implode like this, and I hope I can come up with something decent tomorrow.

EDIT: Instead of an upload, I've returned to regale you all with a bunch of words, words, words!

Thanks for the comments above. I'm glad someone on here can recognize crap-for-quality when they see it and call me out on it! The sprite is good though, and I'm happy with it. The sketch was a bare minimum effort to remind myself "Hey! This is a guy with a net. He's going to be in your game."
I can't wait to get back to graphics. Over the weekend I started sketching out all the attack graphics I'm going to need (I can't work with much right now, all my attack sprites were either drawn years ago or stolen from Vikings of Midgard) and have so far finished the design for every attack the three heroes can use. Except for one super-cool attack that's going to use, like, seven or eight sets of sprites (and will cost nothing to use! I hope everyone gets a lot of mileage out of it!)

What else, what else... I've almost got all the enemy graphics I need. I'll go ahead and list them to give you guys an idea of where I'm at and what weird-named enemies you can expect to fight.

Update 017
(MUSIC) "Fruits"

I'm withholding the context on this one to hear what you guys think. Where would this be most appropriate in an RPG?

Needless to say I ducked out of theme 51, which was draining my sanity; instead I give you a theme that I created a year or so ago, added some stuff to months ago, and just today put the finishing touches on. I think. Maybe it needs more polishing, but it sounds okay for now and is the exact length I want it to be.
