Yes, that beating of a heart. It's getting louder. And drawing closer. In 11 days it'll be too loud to ignore.

On June 1st, the Heart of the OHR will be center stage.

Are you about ready? It's about ready for you.

Good god, does the Heart Of The Official Hamster Republic 2: Dinosaurs And Mega Nazis really need this much hype?

Incentive to get more work done on Legacy!

Hehe, but in all seriousness, I doubt I'll have it finished in time. I'm only around 10% into the game's plot, and I don't even have all the features I want implemented yet. And those that I do have implemented range from working fine, to abysmally broken. And a great deal of them lean more towards the latter, hehe.

Still, here's me hoping.

Close. June 1st to November 30th.

If you're reading this message and I've contacted you about supplying a prize, please respond to me as soon as possible so that I can compile the prize list. If I haven't contacted you, but you have a prize idea that you'd like to throw into the pot, please contact me through private messaging and tell me your idea/contribution by May 31st. Thanks to all the prize suppliers, and thanks to all of this year's eventual contestants.

This should be an awesome year for the OHR if we can all keep it together.

Holy lord, November 30th?! I have a lot more time than I thought. Anyways, hopefully this shall be the year I submit a full RPG. Though, looking at my competition, it seems pretty tough...

Seems like this year shall spawn some decent games to play. Hopefully, my game shall be something people will like to play. So far, my 2011 games were...half baked ideas with poor gameplay. This time, i'm actually trying my best to get this game sensible.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm k

With my confusion aside here, I have a question! Since...you know...I'm relatively new here.....and don't know the rules hardly at all
Are we allowed to repost a game during the time period if, say, something got added to the game? Or at least for a bug-fix? Or is any re-posting illegal and punishable by torture with a side of disqualification?

Just trying to get some stuff under me belt before I go putting up me game is all. I try getting all them bugs out, but one or two always seem to slip by.

And one last thing, just to say it here, the newest version of my glorious game AR-PUH-GUH! will my entry for this competition!

The leap in quality from the previous version to the new one coming out for this contest is a pretty big leap, and the first of my implementation of shading techniques shall be shown! (though not all graphics will be changed, especially of this version)
Cleaned up sprites, new designs for humanoid characters (playable and non), and a ton of new enemies to behold!
->->
(This particular beauty is named Enigma, by our very own Thespazztikone)

A.....well, almost completely redone (1st and 3rd floor are the same) dungeon to be more appealing and funner to navigate, 3 sidequests to start off a constant set that can be taken on at any time during the game, a secret boss hidden well and is very powerful (not too powerful to actually require any excessive grinding!), and even a bestiary to behold! All these things and plenty more features await within the upcoming version 1.3beta of AR-PUH-GUH!!

...perhaps all that should be in the hyping up game thread. Eh, I'll give that thread a far more drastic beating with my self-promotions later. Talking about me game and features and goals for sure gets me pumped up to work on it though! Anywho, I look forward to this contest and say: "Bring it on!"

Meow, the official contest rules will make it clear what's acceptable and what isn't. I'll post them on June 1st.

As far as bug-fixing goes, you're free to make minor changes and repost as many times as you want as long as you do it within the contest window. No game is officially entered and locked in until December 1st at 6am EST.

Having said that, I'm pretty notorious for offering grace periods for entries that need bug-fixing past the deadline. Even if you release a broken game by November 30th, you'll probably have time to fix it. Again, the official contest rules will address this, and explain its limitations. Bottom line is that you don't have much to worry about as long as you don't procrastinate. It may help you to know that I don't make exceptions for procrastinators.

Still need to finish the soundtrack, but I have enough for the demo I plan to release. Those who were disappointed with the rushed Strong Castle music will hopefully be pleasantly suprised. Now I need to draw a few battle backgrounds and get to work on the actual game.

I wanted to throw something more fancy together for HamsterSpeak to promote Viridia: Expedition, but I ran out of time and couldn't come up with anything clever or exciting.
Instead, I'll dispense what I've been working on and what's left to do.
Grin The dialogue! I've got two great lead characters that are good foils for each other, and they've almost always got something to argue about during the mission. Furthermore, their disparate personalities let them interact with NPCs differently. One fellow is a slouch and a playboy who is scoffed at by many people, but can charm certain village girls for presents. The other is a responsible and dignified young man who can often get more useful information from townsfolk. I want to make these characters' chats memorable and the story immersive. I'd say I'm approaching 50% completion of all the dialogue, not counting the actual processing of text boxes and plotscripts. Which isn't to imply I'm halfway done with the story, oh no, the story's been done for almost half a year.
Grin The graphics! Arguably the most frustrating part! I finally egged myself into drawing those accursed cliff tiles by subtly copying from the reference image guo sent me back in February. I've also gotten started on the bramble tiles, but there's still a lot that needs doing. I've got an entire inn that needs furnishing (I might just borrow from Vikings until I can draw it myself,) not to mention a mine shaft and some tents, and many other things. I've also got to re-do some ugly portrait and hero graphics... This is the most discouraging work for me, because I simply cannot foresee an end to it all. Which is peculiar because Expedition doesn't cover a very large area - two towns, two trails, and one mountain. I'll post some screenshots of my progress next week when I'm back at my standard working computer, and then I'll probably start begging again for people to help me with tiles.
Grin The music! Like the previous chapter, I want this one to have an all-original soundtrack. I've got some great themes going, but they still need polishing and detailing. I'm not sure whether to upload the soundtrack in .midi or .ogg format. I guess I'll take a vote on that when I've got some samples of my music in both formats. I don't think I'm going to have any trouble filling every needed music slot, but given the time constraint, I might not be able to make everything of equal quality; I might also have to resort to using some of my bad-sounding older songs, or even public domain stuff.

And then there's stuff I haven't even begun to work on! Battle programming, overworld enemy AI, cutscene scripting, branching story management, and of course, testing. Because there will be a branching story, I feel like there's a million things that could go wrong with so many possibilities open to the player, and I should definitely not release it for the contest until weeks and weeks and weeks of testing have ironed the inevitable bugs out.

That's all for now. If all goes well, I'll be back next week with some slightly more tangible evidence of my progress.
