OK, so I'm a bit on the insane side, and I make spreadsheets for fun. I was digging through my older spreadsheets looking for stuff I could use for Legacy (now that mass-importing items and stuff is relatively easy) and I happened to come across some stuff I was working on.
Most of them were for a roguelike that I was building in Free Basic. In that roguelike, I got up to random dungeons, door placement, reading CSVs for random items, monsters, etc... I eventually abandoned that roguelike because of work-related stuff. I never got around to going back to it, so most of the data I had is just sitting around and I thought I'd share it with the community, just in case someone else can find a use for it.
All the files are .gnumeric, I haven't converted them to .XLS, but I can do so if anyone wants. I didn't convert them yet, because I've had bad experiences with converting from Gnumeric to Excel with my formulas and formatting getting messed up.
Weapons Spreadsheet
This first spreadsheet, is what I used for weapons. The way the item generator in my game worked was, it would choose a weapon based on monster wealth (e.g. A goblin would be poor, but a minotaur would be rich) and then the game would "buy" a weapon for that monster based on the price values in the spreadsheet. Each weapon had a base value, and materials, durability, magical effects, etc... would affect the price of that weapon, either up or down. Monsters would thus be limited to a certain price range of weapons. The chart I built has all the possible weapons, materials, suffixes, prefixes, etc... that I used to build weapons.
A weapon is thus: (Potential Condition Modifier) + (Potential Prefix) + (Material) + (Base Weapon) + (Potential Suffix)
As of now, there are over 4 billion possible combinations of weapons. Using the spreadsheet, I get random item names and properties, like a Bejeweled Crystal Short Sword, Guild-made Mithril Sickle of the Moose, or a Orcish Steel Cane of Minor Cold. Each item also has modified stats and stuff to go along with the different names.
Stats Maker
This one, I still use for Legacy. Basically, it uses the experience and stat building formula for the OHRRPGCE. I use it to give me a rough estimate of just how powerful enemies should be at certain levels, what kind of weapons players should be getting, how much things should cost, etc...
It's not exactly perfect, and it definitely needs tweaking later on after much testing, but I like how I can get a rough guess-timate of values. It also helps keep me organized and helps with planning.
Basically, anything in blue can be edited. Those values can be changed, and the spreadsheet then automatically calculates the other values. Based on the blue values, you can get the stats of a monster at a certain level. So, you could for example, create monster with a Strong STR value, a Weak MAG value, etc... and then see what stats that monster would have at different levels. Because I base my heroes on the same chart, I can then check what level the player is at a certain level in the game, and then create a monster at a similar (well, probably higher) level. Based on the stats of the monster, it also gives me a rough estimate of how much experience and gold that monster should give.
Anywho, that's all from me for now. I know I've got a few more that might be of interest, but I can't seem to find them at the moment, and as it's midnight and I have work to do in the morning, I am off to bed. Cheers everyone!
