Cool. Count me in to do maptiles. I have a few story ideas as well, but if one is decided, I'm good with that. I prolly won't be able to Skype, seeing as I'm on the other side of the world from most of you guys.
On the other hand, Baconlabs' idea of finishing an existing game isn't bad. Though we would need to find a game we'd all want to work on, and one that the author would be on-board with.

Personally, I'd like to play Option 3: The Da Vinci Ultimatum. Sounds like it would be all kinds of cool. I'd love to see FnrrfYgmSchish's art style dominate that one.
I had a contest years ago that some people entered but nobody actually released a game for that I had spent months writing and preparing for. I had created full continents and a five-year history for this game's world, and I even had someone draw up maps for the continents, their nations, and their major cities. Everyone dropped out of the contest. It was unnerving. I wouldn't mind someone or a group of people reviving that project sometime. The idea was to develop small stories that took place during certain pockets of this five-year timespan, using any country as its base. It was called Volcanic Kings. I'd still very much like to see someone make a game in that universe sometime.
For this project, I could lend some NPC writing support if you're desperate for something other than "Hi, I'm an NPC. Welcome to my Town!" I could also give some suggestions for making towns interesting.

@ BMR - Sure bud, and if you have any story ideas, go ahead and post them, or pm.
@ Pepsi - I had a lot of fun writing #3, and I was leaning more toward that one anyway since it opens up so many possibilities.
And yeah, feel free to contribute in any way you like, especially with NPCs. Your dialogue is the best I've seen in the OHR.
Actually, let's do this. After I've created the rough draft of the story this weekend, anyone who wants to take part in writing can take the draft, make changes, then re-post it. From there we'll see what works and what doesn't.
PM me if you want to receive a copy of the draft.

Sample tiles!
Nothing's fixed in stone yet, but thought I'd throw something together to flex the pixeling muscles. Most of it is new, just made over the past couple of hours. The carpet, table, altar, and shelf are from Legacy though. Granted, haven't done much yet, so it's still rather empty.
As for story ideas, I have nothing really concrete, just stuff floating about in the strange world of my imagination.
I know, needs a lot of work, but I only threw that together after a night of insomnia, go figure.
Cheers!

Story Idea
Theme: How far into evil would you go in order to do good?
Setting: The 9 kingdoms (cliché, yes, I know) which are always warring with each other for land. Recently, one of the kingdoms has gained an advantage with its discovery and use of magic. It has managed to conquer and occupy two other kingdoms, and has allied itself with two others. It is now poised to conquer everything.
Basic premise: A group of friends from one of the conquered kingdoms are part of a resistance trying to fight against the would-be empire.
Act 1 - Fighting against the empire. The friends manage to infiltrate the capital and corner the emperor. The emperor tells them that there has always been war, for hundreds of years the 9 kingdoms have not known peace. But unified, under a single government, there could finally be lasting peace. As much as he wants to end the fighting, he knows the only way for such to happen is to unite everyone (not unlike the unification of China under Qin ala that one Jet Li movie). Once there, one of the friends (not the main character) has second thoughts, and agrees with the Emperor. That character argues with the hero that the Emperor is right. In order to stop the fighting, they need to see the war through to the end. The player can either agree, or disagree with the friend. Either way, the emperor is killed to be replaced by either the friend, or the player.
Act 2 - This act depends on the final choice of Act 1. If the player sides with the empire, he fights against his old friends and has to work to conquer the other kingdoms (This could feature some really clever scripted tactical battles and kingdom management) in addition to keeping the conquered places under control. If the player disagrees, the friend teleports the others out of the capital because he doesn't want to see them killed. The player must then unify the other kingdoms to fight against the empire. This will also feature the aforementioned clever scripting. This all culminates in a final battle where the empire, using magic, unleashes a powerful spell meant to finish the war once and for all. Unfortunately, the spell "tears the fabric of reality" (ok, that sounds lame, but this is a basic draft) that releases an old god/demon/whatever who lays waste to both the imperial and resistance armies.
Act 3 - With everything destroyed and devastated, the remnants of the resistance and the empire must band together and join forces against the new threat. The friends reconcile, albeit begrudgingly, and work together to find a way to banish the god/demon/whatever. *insert epic demon-slaying quest here* In the end, the friends manage to banish the demon, and the player sacrifices himself/herself to seal the demon away. The closing credits state that the sacrifice of the player will be remembered, but only time will tell if the sacrifice will have finally bought peace for the 9 kingdoms.

@ BMR - Wow, love your pixels. Also, the idea of the 9 kingdoms, even if it is an oft-used framework, does give me an idea for the story. I'll make sure you get a draft so you can see how I'm thinking of incorporating it.
On that note, to any artists interested in contributing:
@ SwampTroll - I tend to run into plot contradictions often, so continuity editing will be helpful. I'll add you to the list of people who will receive a script this weekend.

The idea we're going with will allow multiple styles to coexist, so don't worry about your work not matching or being of the same quality as everyone else's.
Yes, that means that now matter your taste in art, or even if you're just beginning to learn how to create pixel art, your work will be accepted.
We'll establish how everyone's contributions will be compiled shortly. Probably going to create a separate email account for this project.
And of course, everyone who contributes will be added to the credits.

I has idea.
I can just make a bundle of creatures and put them into a .zip folder and PM it to whoever, so as to make creature importation quicker.
Question is, since I can't seem to attach files to the thread, who would I send it to? Would you be the one taking them, G-Wreck?
I still only have the one guy made, though I have a few others planned.
