Okay! This definitely sounds like the short-midi-crash bug.

I examined the troublesome bam file. It appears to be corrupted somehow, so when it gets converted to a mid file the result is extremely short and loops every fast, and triggers bug 722 and/or bug 797 (they are probably the same bug)

Not directed just at Surlaw: If "updating for compatibility" requires anything other than replacing the copy of game.exe (and optionally running the RPG file through Custom to upgrade it to shorten the load time), we would very much love to know.

Never said it was fixed; it isn't. And as far as I know, the problem has nothing to do with number of loops; rather the engine will crash if you focus/unfocus the window right as a MIDI/BAM loops. So you're more like to see it with shorter files. Was also a report about correlation with keypresses.

There are two different bugs: the other bug (the one affecting Walthros) is that some (typically short or empty) BAM & MIDI files cause problems.
