I really love seeing what comes out of these contests. Can't wait to try the games you guys make!

Racism is inherently not-funny. It is so difficult to effectively satirize racism, that even the most successful attempts often seem to me like effort poorly spent :(
The OHRRPGCE community only has a small number of black members, and as far as I know none of them are currently active, and I would really hate to do a black history month contest without their involvement
Thank you for being the one to say this.

I didn't intend any racism. I was mostly mocking the idea of a contest for every month and Black History Month was the first "... Month" I thought of, though now that I think of it, George Washington Carver RPG would be pretty cool (The dude uses peanuts instead of MP!)
A Black History contest probably wouldn't be a good idea with or without the involvement of our actual black members because half of the entrants would be trolls and the other half would be offensive attempts to be inoffensive. If anyone was offended, I'm sorry. If anyone thought this was a good idea you don't need a contest to be tolerant. Just make your main character black like it isn't a big deal, because it isn't.

Oh, I didn't think your suggestion was racist, I was just worried the idea might end up snowballing in a racist direction.
Games with racial diversity is actually something I think about a lot lately. I have read so many books recently that were so great in expanding my own racial and cultural horizons, that I know games can do the same, even though games are a vastly different medium than books (or movies).
If I was going to make a game for Black history month, I think I would want to attempt an adaptation of a Christopher Paul Curtis novel-- but doing that idea justice would require a lot more time and effort than I would be able to put into it, so I doubt I will ever try :)
Also, Nathan, I know your racist caricature pixel art has already earned you some flak, but I am optimistically hoping that you have some satire in mind. I know I said that attempts at satire about racism usually leave me disappointed, that isn't to say I don't think anybody should try. The un-funnyness of racism is no reason to eliminate humor from the arsenal of ideas to combat it :)
(sorry for de-railing the 8-bit contest thread, meatballsub)
