Do we go backward, or keep going forward?

It's coming.

In two weeks.

Those who've been around long enough will know what I'm referring to, and they may feel their heart fill with terror, joy, exhilaration and agony all at once. The question is, do I take a step back and go back to the original rules (make the WORST game imaginable, the one you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy), or continue forwards with a specific theme? The theme this year would be to take a villainous character and put them in a situation where they come out a hero.

Gahn's Discount Puppy Store. Dr. Mu the Science Guy. El Presidente Broaste and his adventures in the Bananna Republic. Slithers and Ladders. Cthulhu Saves the World. Actually that last one's real, but you get the gist of what I'm hinting at.

Personally I've enjoyed the more recent iterations of this contest, but I'm leaving it to you guys.

3 days to decide.

You know what you doing.

I vote that this contest be renamed the Ridiculous Games Contest to avoid confusion about what contestants should be making and how games should be judged. Theme or no theme, I don't care.

I'm not against having a theme, but I think it's within the spirit of the contest to totally ignore the theme and I'd hate to see someone get punished for not following rules in a contest as free-spirited as the Terrible Games Contest.

And yes, I think it should stay the Terrible Games Contest, not Ridiculous, not Campy, not Silly, but TERRIBLE. The idea (At least the way I always interpreted it) was to make and play games that you'd never see any other time of the year. You can go out on a limb and experiment a little and if it's terrible, who cares? That's the name of the contest.

I do think "Villains as heroes" could make for some cool entries though, so maybe just let it be one of those rules that are meant to be broken?

The best Worst Possible Games have already been made, so something different would be more enjoyable.

Yay!

I for one intend to flagrantly ignore whatever rules are decided upon, and to try and make something "Terrible", as in: "I am Oz, The Great and Terrible!"

Teams have always been welcome in either the Terrible or the Ridiculous Games Contest.

As for the exact nature of the contest's rules this time around, they'll be tailored to whichever option receives the most votes. I don't plan on outright penalizing people for ignoring the rules, but there MAY be something like "achievements" or special scoring bonuses for doing particular things with your entries. Some of these may even be mutually exclusive. But that's just how we roll around here.

That said, I have no idea whatsoever what'll happen if that classic third option wins. The prospect of a third and unknown set of rules to play by strikes me with hope, fear, and confusion all at once. Much like voting for a third party candidate.

I think the name should stay Terrible, but the rules should emphasize Ridiculous.

Problem solved. You're welcome.

Do we have to wait until April 1st to start working? I want to be terrible NOW!

I guess I feel like flagrantly ignoring theme rules is cute and fun, but ignoring time-period rules would be cheating :(
