Hello all,

I require an artist to assist me with a game I am developing. After seeing so much discussion regarding horror games (and being a fan of them myself) I have taken it upon myself to begin making a short, but intense horror game.

The theme is psychological, with the emphasis being placed on immersive storytelling and setting. The main thematic ideas will be science, guilt and a non-linear timeframe. The setting will be slightly mature.

What I will specifically require is a set of walkabouts, for the main character, generic walkabouts (namely, scientist) and maybe a dozen monsters or so. I will of course collaborate with the artist on the visual look of these graphics.

If you would like to contribute in some other way, please do let me know.

-JSW

PS: It has been suggested to me that a demonstration of what I currently have completed is a useful indication of my graphical style. When I have some suitable screenshots, I will make them available here.

Hmm, sounds out o' my league. I'm mostly cartoony when it comes to art. Just look at my avatar! I'd be interested to see how this goes though.

I drew these tiles just now:

They give an idea of the kind of visual feel I am going for. Dark and sterile. Hopefully this will demonstrate my ideas a little more clearly, and that I am quite serious about working on this project.

EDIT: Redrew the tiles slightly.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I don't see anything?

BMR: I think it may just be you?

Here is another screenshot.

I'd be very grateful for any feedback, or criticism.

Also, here is a sound effect: squish_01.wav - 0.54MB It's a squelching sound for a monster.

Seems pretty bland.

That's pretty much the point. My question then is, do you mean bland pejoratively? I've been deliberately very conservative with my colour scheme, which in the context of the game will actually make sense.

Looks fine so far, but from the one picture I see there, it does seem, like what Spoonweaver said, a bit bland. There doesn't seem to be very much happening in it, and seems a bit flat. I suppose that that is taking one picture out of context though, would be good to see other pictures or to know the context of the game.

From that, I'm guessing you're going for a darker feel and mood.

And granted, going with fewer colours does give it a drab (not in a bad sense) feel to it, but you can make it look dark and drab (again in a good sense) without making it look plain and flat (in a bad sense). For ideas, might I direct you to the SNES Shadowrun game? It has a very bleak feel to it, without feeling flat or un-engaging.

Anywho, that's all from me for now, if you want any specific points or advice, just ask, cheers!
