I will have no objections to "Apophenia" if you give us a pronunciation guide. I stumbled on it during my video playthrough last time.
Also, does it have anything to do with the game itself, or its story? I may end up renaming Viridia, myself; it was the name of a spiritual being who I have managed to completely write out of the story, making the current title meaningless.

Also, would you all believe I'm still stuck drawing these stupid cliff tiles? I absolutely cannot get them to look good. I've been composing new music for my entry, and I'm not happy with the results there, either! It's infuriating, I feel like I'm never going to make any progress.

I like the name Apophenia, and I also like the name Viridia. Even if both names have little or nothing to do with the games themselves, I've gone so long knowing them by those names that I would feel funny calling them anything else. It would feel like that one time long ago when Charlie Sheen wanted everyone to start referring to him as Charles Sheen. What??? Um, no.

I would like to caution those who are submitting rereleases to evaluate whether this is what you want. I'll be posting the new rules soon, and when I do you'll see that the conditions for rereleased games have changed slightly from 2010's list of rules (and with good reason).

On the same note, if you do want to submit a rerelease, I would like to remind you that your Ridiculous Game entry and your 8-Bit entry will be eligible if it meets the primary conditions. At the same time, because it'll automatically default as a rerelease, this may not be your preference.

I hope that's cryptic enough for you. ;)

Ok Apophenia (I believe its A-Poe-Feeneeya) it is! And like Viridia, the origin of the name has been written out ... I originally wanted the game to be a figment of the main character's imagination as he entered psychosis... seeing patterns where there weren't any.

But the story has changed a fair bit in the last 1.5 years. Regardless, I'll keep it for "brand recognition".

Baconlabs, here's a cliff I made a while back. It's not the best but you can use it at your leisure. :

Unfortunately I can't do much with that, it's the edges and slopes that are giving me trouble. I appreciate the thought though, could be I'll find another use for it.
And I had no idea Apophenia was an actual word! The more you know~

@Guo

I like you, (not in *that* way, but in a NeoSpade way,) so I'll be the one to say it: it's a weird name, I wouldn't attach yourself to it, and you don't have to worry about branding yet. The game had like 2 or so maps to it. It's still a wild card, full of possibilities and wonder, and has yet to define itself in the ohr's hivemind.

Ie, nothing wrong with being a blank flank.

@Pepsi

If I'm reading you right, one could 're-release' an updated version of any game they've made and enter it into this contest, so long as the previous version was a rpg? If it wasn't, but the re-release makes it a rpg, would it count as a rerelease or disqualified or? The speculation is interesting.

I don't think what the previous version was would really matter, would it? As long as what you release for Heart of the OHR is an RPG, it should be eligible for the contest.

I'm not sure it would count as a rerelease of the older game if it's actually a completely different type of game from the original version, though. I would guess that if you turned a non-RPG into an RPG for the contest, it would end up counted as a newly-released game (since most, if not all, of the game would need to be remade to make it into an RPG, it pretty much would have to be.)

Well, I think a rerelease is a rerelease no matter how it's released. If everything changes but the name, then maybe I'd count it as a new game. But why would you rip out the original style of gameplay to convert it into an RPG? Seems like a waste of all that extra scripting you did to make it a non-RPG. If you're making it a hybrid -- part RPG, part made-up concoction of loosely related gameplay ideas -- I might still be willing to accept it for its RPG elements alone. I suppose it would depend on when the RPG elements kick in, and how much of the game relies on it. If Tim-Tim the Mighty Gnome is rereleased with five new levels and one RPG battle, I wouldn't count it. If it's a game full of town exploration, turn-based battles, and only one side-scrolling map, I'd probably accept it.

Bottom line remains as it did two years ago: make your game how you want it and if it qualifies, enter it into the Heart of the OHR; if it doesn't, I'm sure it'll still be fun.

Only a few weeks now.
I'm not quite ready for entering the contest, but I'm almost there.
HOO-AH!

Anyone else prepared!? Meowskivich needs some competition to leave him in the dust! Or perhaps vice versa.
Who knows.

A project roughly 2 years in the making, and still no where near completion.
A project to be worked on for years to come.
