Derf, I was not running the nightly build like I thought I was. Dunno how I did that, but when I ran it in the nightly, it ran just fine. No crashes or any weirdness. Yay!

EDIT: I take that back; I got a crash when I called Steve a second time without exiting the screen. I had retrieved the key, checked the diary, talked to Gloria and it was night. I then went to the phone, called Steve once, hung up, and called him again. The phone rang twice and then I just got a hang and eventual End Task message. I'll PM you the error log again, it's pretty long this time and actually seems to have an error message.

Started playing Bloodlust this morning. Pretty good so far, but I kind of wish that the protagonist would be quiet for a minute instead of telling me how horrible everything is. I've only had one battle so far ("oh crap run away" has been my response in every other situation) which has been encouraged by the idea of losing levels every time I fight. It's an interesting way of keeping the game genuinely frightening.

Thanks again for the suggestions guys. Grin

P.S. is there any way to make these games full screen? alt enter or maximizing the window technically does it, but it often reverses the tile colors for some reason. Maybe it's just a windows XP thing.

I just finished Bloodlust this morning and all I can say is "AAAuuuuuuggggh is that really the best ending?"

I'm going to write a review for Bloodlust for next month's Hamster Speak. I think next up will be Tilt.

...but seriously there has to be a better ending, because that was horrible.

Did you save the little girl at the end? It's a rather annoying Quick-Time Event that happens subtly in the middle of a cutscene, but it does improve the ending.
I don't know if there's a better ending than that, this game is quite large and there's a fair number of hidden things to be found, so... maybe?
I hope onlyoneinall reads this thread and responds, I'm curious about this.

Yep, I saved Janie and was hoping for a good ending...but there's really only the somewhat less terrible ending.

Has anyone finished this on Hard? I'd be interested to find out what's in the zip file, but I'm afraid I don't think I'm up to the challenge.

I felt the same way about the ending. Missing was such an amazing game while I was playing it, but the ending was so depressing that it soured my whole memory of the game, and made me not want to play again.

See, I'm all about the depressing ending. But I feel like sometimes a bad ending is just so that everything can be horrible...forever. Missing's bad ending was depressing and violent, and I didn't feel like any of the characters learned anything. Same for Bloodlust, although I was holding out for a better ending for sure.

I sincerely hope that Hard mode has a better ending, because Reed actually seemed to grow as a person throughout the game, and the ending really undermines all of that.

Bad depressing endings always remind me of the last lines of Burn After Reading:

CIA Superior: What did we learn, Palmer?
CIA Officer: I don't know, sir.
CIA Superior: I don't ****in' know either. I guess we learned not to do it again.
CIA Officer: Yes, sir.
CIA Superior: I'm ****ed if I know what we did.
CIA Officer: Yes, sir, it's, uh, hard to say
-CIA Superior shakes his head-
CIA Superior: Jesus. Jesus ****ing Christ.

Yeah, its not like I expected a "Happy" ending. That would not have fit the story. But I want an ending that says something more than "Everything you worked for meant nothing!"

EDIT: I was thinking, that even a terrible and depressing ending is still better than no ending at all. Yay for finished games! :)

That's very true. I appreciate that I was able to get all the way through Bloodlust and Missing, as they were both quite the journey and the endings were a relief, even if they were terribly depressing.

I wrote my piece on Bloodlust, so I'll send it in for next month's Hamster Speak. The one for Missing should be coming out this month, yay. I'm super excited.

Hey, thanks for the review! The best ending the game has is the "A" ending, but I've always wanted to go back and do an improved version, cleaning up the story and all. The game does have quite an angsty angle (not surprising I guess, seeing as the story originally started while I was in high school), but I'd love to go back and improve a lot of things. I'm almost two years graduated from college so I think what I can do to improve the story/dialogue could be huge. I just haven't had time in my life to do much of anything. Sad The latest review has given me motivation, and someone even went so far as to make some improved MP3 music so...!

Saving this post for the next person who says reviews aren't valuable.

You totally just made my day, Only One In All. It makes me happy to know that you liked my review and found it valuable! I would love to see an updated version of Bloodlust; I think that it's a seriously good game that just needs a little polish and love. If you need any help playtesting, I'd be more than happy to assist!

Surlaw: Do people really say reviews aren't valuable? That's oddly hostile to reviewers Surprised

There's a lot of odd hostility in this community! It just makes me appreciate everyone who contributes even more.

I made Pitch Black a long time ago. I think it's still pretty good, and you can beat it in one sitting easily.

I can't suggest Pitch Black 2, though. It's too buggy, convoluted, and difficult to suggest. The freaking walkthrough I provided even has an error in it, thus proving I am the king of biting off more than I can chew.

It's a random note, but Corpse Party on PSP (and now iOS) made me really reconsider the fact that horror games on the OHR could really work well. I know you guys have been doing a great job with them (I'd like to pretend I pioneered that genre but...it was probably Purgatory, honestly), and I'd love to see more.

Anyway, that's my plug.
