Contest idea

Here's an interesting contest idea, if anyone is interested...

A cross-game contest. Basically attempting to cross 2 games together, let it be bringing characters from one game into another games world. The story can be anything from finding a way home, to say the characters struggles to adapting to the new world.

A cross-game would have to have 1 game as a RPG genre, both games could be RPGs. The games can either be one from the community, or a commercial franchise.

An example would be something like Powerstick man in the Walthros world.

Something else would be mixing Final Fantasy and Mario(oh this has already been done by Square...), but Mario in the Final Fantasy world battling those monsters hasn't.

Be creative and mix and match various games and genres with RPGs. There are some very interesting combinations out there to play with.

Judging would be based off how well the developer is able to put a story together, and how the battles play through. Look at how Mario made his transition to RPG for examples on a story/battles, as this is one of the most successful game crossovers done commercially to date.

If anyone is interested, please post any ideas here for discussion.

I like your idea. Grin

Then I read it, I stared thinking which two game I could mix up.
But I haven't decided yet, I haven't played lots of OHR games.

I'd like to make a cross game, but at the moment I fear I don't have time (till February) to take part in a contest. Sad

Some questions/thoughts:
1) Can I mix up my own game with that of an other player?
2) What about the graphics? Do they need to be selfmade? Or can I take them from for example hamsterspeak submissions?
3) Who will host the contest? Set up deadline and maybe think about prices? And answer all my questions?
5) Will there be a dead-line for making such a game?
Depending on that, if there's enought time i'd like to part, or otherwise I think I'd like to help setting up the contest, if help is needed.

Spellshard Heroes and Villains Meet the OHR House.
All hell will break loose.

Sounds like an interesting contest concept.

Sort of. If you were thinking of Super Mario RPG, there was nothing Final Fantasy related in it except for FF4's boss theme used for a boss that wasn't actually from a Final Fantasy game (I guess you could say the crystals made a cameo appearance there, but... eh, I don't know if I'd count that.)

The only actual crossing-over that's happened has been in things like that Mario basketball game on the DS (I think... not 100% sure if it was DS or GBA.) Had a few "characters"--which were actually classes/species like White Mages, Moogles, etc. rather than actual characters--from the Final Fantasy series in it.

When it was first released in the 90s, there was no Mario game like it, and at the time it had a Final Fantasy feel to it, despite no character cross-overs. Although they did introduce new enemies and party members that never made a return. Oh Geno, where did Square and Nintendo put you?

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games is technically a cross-over series, same as Smash Bros. Even though all the characters are Nintendo, they are not from the same series. Other similar examples exist, but it's not really placing another character into a different world and seeing what happens.

You may call Super Mario Bros. USA, known as Super Mario Bros. 2 in the Americas a cross-over. The Mario characters are put into a world they really never belonged, and fought enemies from that world, such as Wart. Although it never mentions the original game or characters, but rather completely replaces them.

I meant that the only Final Fantasy/Mario crossover-ing has been in that basketball game.

I wasn't saying that there have never been other Mario crossover-ish games, only that there hasn't really ever been a Mario/Final Fantasy crossover that went beyond a few minor cameo appearances tacked on somewhere.
