I have problems with importing midi sounds, because I can't import them.

I discovered I can't import sounds in midi format into the Editor. Surprised

1.
So, do you know a (free and hopefully easy to use) program the can change midi to ogg or wav (or what ever the Editor accepts as sounds format)?

2.
I tryed to import the midi-sounds as songs.
In some caese it worked, in other cases it chrashed the Editor, I guess it was besause the midi-file was to short.
The sounds were really short, because they are just sounds.

I don't know if this is a known bug or not, ... Sad

Midi is not a good format for sound effects.

If you really want to use midi sounds, you are correct that they need to be pre-converted to ogg or wav.

There are a ton of midi to wav converter programs for windows out there, but I have never tested any of them, and they all appear to be commercial or shareware.

There is a free tool called timidity that can convert midi to wav on Linux, and a windows version exists, but it is hard to find, and hard to use.

I suggest that you use bfxr to make sound effects instead. It is very easy, and you will probably have no trouble making sound effects that sound better than anything you could do with midi files.

Thanks for your answer.

I didn't like bfxr because all the sounds I managed to make sound quite the same and very artificial. Maybe I just need more practice.

I'll try to find a free converter program.

Good news! I just discovered that Audacity can convert midi files into wav/mp3/ogg. Audacity is free.

http://audacity.googlecode.com/files/audacity-win-unicode-1.3.13.exe

The instructions for Audacity's two methods of MIDI conversion are here: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-an-MP3-or-WAV-out-of-a-MIDI-Using-Audacity

Let me know if it works for you.

Now I can record lots of sounds plus I got a working version of audacity! Grin

Thanks!

It's done! Smile
I posted the "noise" in the games section.
I'll wait for comments or untill someone tells me to remove the soundfiles.

Thie sounds like bug 722:

The only other MIDI tracks we have which crash are silent. It would be nice to have copies of the MIDIs you have which crash as well. Could you attach them to the bug report, or email them to me please?
