Wanted: A Competent Scripter

I'm working on an 8-Bit Zelda-Like game, and I require the intellectual prowess of someone who can help me script enemies, bosses, sword attacks, ect.
And before you ask, this is not using the traditional battle system, this will be a Zelda Style system. The hero will be fighting on the overland, not in a 'Battle'.

The game i'm working on is an 8-bit game. A sparce four colors to work with...five, if you count the backdrop color AKA white.

The lucky victim person will become my slave helper when it comes to script thingamajigs.

So...who has the skills?

you will probably have a hard time getting someone to do this. i would recommend looking at those scripts and learning to make them yourself.

alternatively, there is a program called Zelda Classic which is built for making zelda-style games. http://www.zeldaclassic.com/

That seems useful...but I still need proffesional help. Things might get complicated later on scripting more complex items/attacks. It would be useful to have somebody who knows their way around the script, but if all else fails, i'll resort to the example scripts.

Also, i'm gonna need a composer too for GBA style music.

I'm suprised you don't have NeoSpades avvy. Didn't you read the sign? *Points* "No Trolls Allowed"

I have created some nice looking 8-Bit walkabouts, but I still need help scripting. There will be a sword, hammer and some wands in the game as of this moment, and i'll need help for a keypress script that, by using tags, that will change the heroes walkabout picture, and the different types of attacks and their effects. Not to mention, scripting enemies to attack, and scripting bosses to do more complex attacks and features. I can provide artwork and story...but, I only decently know scripting. I've only touched at random setting of variables for lottery like purposes.

If you look on the wiki there is help with on-keypress scripts.

Also, I'd like to see your graphics since you said they were good so I can look forward to playing. (cause you know good graphics draw people in) Hurr

I'll have you know that Mr.Trollslime is a highly respected member of society. He's a reformed troll, a servant of the people.

Ontopic: Have you checked out the scripting within The Crypt of Baconthulu? James had a functional damage system in there, it might be useful to check it out.

Hey, chill our Master K... But I was just gonna say: I don't think you're gonna have an easy time doing this at all. You say that you can provide the story and graphics, but I'm pretty sure that's the story of everyone's life. If you have a story and some graphics, use them for what the OHR was intended for. I mean, it's great to be ambitious, and if you want a zelda-esque game fine. But it's gonna be a lot easier to take the route all people who haven't scripted before do: small steps. Make a "normal" game first, learn scripting techniques from that so that when you start to learn more difficult things, you can focus only on those, rather than the basics (which you will have down from making a standard RPG). Also: concerning music, I have some samples listed for Jaguar in the Games section. Feel free to take them and use/change them, but why not just write your own? Or rip the music from professionals, haha.
You can't fix stupidity.

I'm not ready to put full time into a complete game, but I'd be up for a colab. Guarantee nothing, though. I'm not a master scripter, but I know my way around loops and slices REALLY well.

As for music... Have you heard of Mario Paint Composer?
http://mario-paint-composer.en.softonic.com/
It's great if you're looking for that style of music.

I have Anvil Studio, but I only know how to plonk randomly with some intruments, and speed up or lengthen notes. Sure, thats good enough to create songs, but I have dubbed myself tone deaf. I really don't know what sounds good together, which is where the plonking comes in, trying to get lucky.

Sure. I'll post them on the hype thread later. I have a bunch of walkabouts that look pretty good for only four colors.

To the Cthulu parody I go!

Hm...you could be of some use. Slices could be the way to create boss monsters...
And thanks for offering up a program!

Ugh, I checked out James and Spoon's scripts...waaaay to much for an inexperienced scripter to wrap his head around. I barely know about variables and constants...I know about Keypress scripts, but still...

It's a lot to wrap your head around when you haven't really scripted game functions before. By functions, I mean things that have to be Plotscripted into OHR.

If you want to hire a pro, I can find you a scripting professional. There will be a small itty bitty headhunter's fee involved.

Or we can work it out here and everyone can nag and poke holes in our construction. It'd be interesting. What say you!

Small steps~ One at a time.

Sounds like a plan! We could try and nitpick and work with scripts. It wouldn't hurt to try. I got a great palette, and some nice sprites, and it would be a shame to waste them. The scripts would mainly be focused around scripting enemy health, various attacks (Swords, Wands, Hammer) and their special effects on enemies and the overworld, and the complexer scripting of bosses.
