Allowing one of the partners to bring their existing game into the contest would defeat the purpose of teaming up with someone to create something.
Super Walrus Land: Mouth Words Edition
Working on two games shouldn't be a problem since we have till July of next year. Surely you and your partner can find a chunk of time between now and then to put something together.
Also gonna second what Surlaw said: One guy or another bringing their existing project into things would kill the whole purpose of two strangers working from the ground up to make something awesome. Brainstorm, find some common interest with the guy. Maybe you'll think of something worth putting your other stuff on hold for.

I have altered the way scoring will work for the contest. Please refer to the first post of this thread for details.
..or just read it here I guess.
The first chance to earn bonus points towards your entries final contest score will be coming up shortly.

Voting will be the normal OHR way, where a voting thread is opened after the end of the contest entry due date, and everyone in the community has a chance to vote on his/her favorite game. To vote, you need only list the entries in order of which one you think was best to which one you think was the worst. Each entry will get points for each voters ranking of it. If a voter ranks a game as 1st, it will get 30 points. If it's ranked 2nd it will get 20, if it's 3rd it will get 10, and if it's 4th it will get 0.
There will also be chances during the time the contest is going on to earn points for your entry before the votes even start.

Mini Contest 1
In order to enter this mini contest your contest team needs to post a screenshot of your game on the contest journal thread by December 30th. Though your game may not be done, you should still be able to present a screenshot that should give people a good idea of what your game should be when it's finished.
The winner of this mini contest will earn 40 points towards the final score of their entry.
The team in second place will earn 20 points towards the final score of their entry.
The teams in 3rd, 4th, and 5th will receive no bonus points this time.
There will also be 10 points given to each team that enters.
The winners will be selected by the judges RMSephy and Lord Shizuma
I look forward to seening your screenshots come December 30th.
Although idle, your screenshots need not reflect the final entry your team enters into this contest. If only 1 team enters this mini contest they win both first and second. If no one enters no one gets bonus points.Rules for this mini contest are subject to change at any time for any reason.

Just a heads up, I altered the points teams will get for winning the mini contest. I'm also offering 10 points to each team that enters it now.
I also put a notice up explaining that the voting point values are subject to change. Just in case someone thinks their game has no chance of winning come vote time.
I also posted the teams' current score totals (which are all zero right now).

The winners of this mini contest will receive a prize package in the mail.
2nd 3rd and 4th will get nothing.
The winners will be selected by the judges RMSephy and Lord Shizuma
I look forward to reading your descriptions come January 20th.
Which is when entries for this mini contest are due.

So, 1 person entered the last mini contest. That's disappointing.
hmmm...
A lot of the people in this contest don't seem to be paying attention to these mini contests. I think I'm done doing them.
I'm sorry to charbile who entered this mini contest, but without another entry I'd feel silly sending out a prize.
I'm wondering if people are still even planning to enter this contest. Given the limited nature of the contest I'd really like it if the teams could be represented on the forums a bit more often.
I'm thought about canceling the contest but I don't see any point in doing that.
If only 1-2 teams end up entering, prizes will still be rewarded at the end of this contest.

Well, if you had a plot already, you could've just posted that for the mini-contest.
You know, I'm starting to see the conundrum in this contest. With a collaboration, you'd think you could get things done twice as fast, but really you just spend twice as much time doing nothing while waiting for your partner to do something.
And think! You spend eight hours a day sleeping! Twice as much time doing nothing is a lot of time!

I'm beginning to think that less time for this sort of contest would have been better.
Next time I plan to have everyone meet up in the IRC where I'll assign teams. This way they'll have their first meeting right then and there. Then I'll only give them 1 month to make their game. Otherwise, they'll procrastinate their project into oblivion, like they are now.
I am still holding out hope that something awesome will be created from this contest, and that perhaps a new partnership will be born.
