The first demo of my latest game, Forsaken, has been released!
This thread is for you to share your thoughts!
So...what do you think...?
comments:
your maps are too big - seriously: less is more. it's tiresome to have to travel more than two to three screens just to get to the next event or house when there's literally nothing in between.
i don't get Velus' comment about water in a cave, and i even more don't get why he needs a raft when he can apparently walk on water during battles.
i got annihilated by the hydra. one of his spells knocked out a majority of my health, and since i spent all my $gold$ on a weapon that doesn't do anything i wasn't able to buy healing items.
are there save points before the first dungeon? i don't really feel like starting over a fourth time just to die and start all over again.
bugs/goofs:
when you encounter the merchant, he's nearly off screen, which makes the whole scene kind of awkward. try lowering everyone a few tiles.
the katana is completely useless. which is pretty lame since it costs a lot.
sleeping at the Inn in Valance breaks the camera, and makes the game unplayable.
entering the upper right building in Valance gets you stuck, as there is no exit door.

Not bad. I like the graphics and the music design. The maps are OK with me too. Attack graphics and animations were super-cool.
Standard beta complaints:
Writing needs more pep, The stuff about good and evil at the start, *yawn*.
OHR default sounds throughout... Please change them to better sounds!
Hydra totally decimated me. Was there a savepoint somewhere?

Please include game.exe with your zip file. People aren't always on a computer with the OHRRPGCE installed, (like I am now)
You can rename game.exe into the same name as your rpg file, (keeping the '.exe' of course,) and it will automatically run your game, skipping the choose-game menu.
EDIT: I should add that there are probably some other files you have to include too, I forget which. Someone here knows, or you can try running it and it will tell you what you're missing.
It's also good for compatibility concerns!

I hear all your concerns.
I'll try and shorten them up, and implement a run tool early in the game.
Which comment? Also,I didn't make a raft in battle because my pallete wouldn't let me make a raft. I discovered the colors I could get rid of, and i'm going to remedy the pallete. I'll fix the issue.
I'm going to add more useful items.
You can (supposidly) save in any area.
I shall do that.
Must've forgot to add stats. Later on, it's a starter weapon for one
hero.
Script glitch, will fix.
Will fix.
I shall start working on Forsaken Demo+. I'll fix the glitches, and add more content. I realize there is a little blandness, and that there is a lack of items. I was rushing last night to finish on time, but I will get to work now. And, thanks for playing.

Hey, just started playing the demo. Just got Isis. Love the animated flowers! I also like depth the ocean gives from the way it is drawn below (that 3D-Esq look) and the way it is animated.
I think you could make some maps a bit smaller as well. Even the INN building is just a bit too large inside. You also should work on the battle system a little more. It seems like i'm level too fast, almost after each battle. After the hydra, the battles seem to get too easy.
BUGS/ISSUES:
Getting chest w/ silver ring on right is delayed slightly
Camera frozen and doesn't re-focus on hero after sleeping at INN.
Battle against hydra way too hard
Battle against shadow monsters way too easy - they always miss.
keep up the good work

When the run tool gets implemented, large maps won't matter. ;)
Also, I don't know how to obtain the extension files to put into game ZIPS.
I don't have a good sound program.
Time for a difficulty spike...
Thats because the game has the caterpillar party on.

His, "Water?! Seriously?! How is there water here?!" comment. I could understand this if we were out in the desert, but we're not. We're in a cave on the coast.

You can save on the cliffs. Beyond the Hydra, I'm not sure.

How long is the Demo?
I guess, I didn't get far. I just got into the first town.
The game crashed then I played it the first time. (I think it's my computers fault, don't worry.) But so I realiesed that their is no way to skip the intro.
The second time i had to resart because, the camera in the inn didn't follow the hero anymore after waking up.
In town I didn't like the music. I thought it was annoying.
But it's good, that there is sound in the demo!
The town is very huge, i don't know if you could put the houses closer together?
I like the way you drew the people and houses.
I also liked the sea, the seaguls that where moving around althought the perspective seemed somehow a little odd.
Later I discovered that the brown things, there not a bundary but cliffs or something like that!
I liked the dialogues. The Bandits where funny, and what I really like: They didn't die, but they ran away!
(Unfurnately I was killed ... now i'll have to restart Forsaken a thrid time
. . . maybe i'll play it again later.)
So, that's my very first impression.
