Palette issues

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but there's a... bug, maybe... that's been bugging me for quite some time.

I have a nice, neat, clean palette ready for import:

(Yeah, it's VampiDucki's)

But, see... when I import it into OHR, the OHR auto refits the colors like this:

All of a sudden, instead of a nice, clean, easy-to-maneuver palette, I get THIS; a messy, all-over-the-place palette where it takes me significantly longer to find any single color than it did before, and now with nearly no way to compare colors easily. Is this just my computer? Is there a trick that would fix this? Or is this actually part of the engine?

I am willing to bet that palette is saved as an 8-bit BMP file. That means that the palette order is determined by whatever program saved the BMP file, and it is very unlikely to match the pixels in the image.

If you save it as a 24-bit BMP file, then custom will import it pixel-by-pixel, and the colors will be in the correct order.

Okay, thanks! Wasn't aware I could use 24-bit.

Incidentally, this is related to a question I had.

Say I made a 24 bit 16x16 palette like I should but the colors aren't sorted...
Does anybody know of a program that would sort the color order for me?

I'm not sure of any programs that do this natively. It seems like, in general, it would be hard to do, as you'd have to sort along at least three different aspects (HSL) for any given color. Finding a program that sorts along just one of those would be easier, but probably not too useful to your purposes.
