I think it would be just plain weird to drop random encounters entirely; the game's purpose is to teach newbies how to use the engine. I don't think this would be accomplished correctly by replacing the OHR's easiest way to place badniks.
I also don't think it's a good idea to just let players turn random encounters off. They serve two purposes: providing experience points, and draining resources. Allowing a player to turn them off essentially negates the entire resource-draining effect.
Personally, I've always liked random encounters. I really think they're the best way to deal with all fights not directly relevant to the story.
Remeber: God made you special and he loves you very much. Bye!

Update time. Or as they say, "pics or it didn't happen"...
If you meet "God", be sure and thank him. I'm debating having his appearance change depending on who's leading your party, although the thought of the creator wearing a suit and top-hat is just too much. Don't worry, you don't have to climb some tower and fight him.
Been spending the past month trying to set up the battle arena - where I figure half of the game's end-game content will take place. FFVI was like that too, as was Kingdom Hearts. I'm stuck on putting together a workable menu that lets you select different fights, but it'll come to me. I've also been taking some time to try and liven up the dialogue somewhat by spicing up the insults. For example, a "shotclog" is a person whose company is only tolerated because they're paying for drinks.

The arena's script is finally working, allowing the player to pick and choose from nearly twenty deathmatches! And of course, pics or it didn't happen.
Horace's battle is in, and working. If someone ever composes an OHR themed version of "Battle on the Big Bridge", you can be sure he'll get it.

Everyone knows Furry God is a lion. Not sure why, since most furries seem to be wolves.

THANK YOU.
Really, the "at high enough levels, you get to kill God!" and "X powerful evil entity cast Holy on you" are two of my least favorite RPG tropes.

"Anywhere I've been before?" Dude, you're GOD. I get that you can't just win the game for me, but COME ON. You're just being lazy

Basically there's a "drop point" in each major area you can teleport to. One of these is inaccessible until a bit later in the game. Regardless, Odin's "scroll of returning" has NOTHING on this.
Thinking of putting in a free inn, weapons and armor shop. This place literally becomes the player's base of operations late-game. IF you can find it.
To friends long gone, and those I've yet to meet - thank you.

I keep wanting to wait until Vikings of Midgard is done before I play it, but I don't think that's ever going to happen. You're just going to keep making it better and better until the heat death of the universe (your progeny will continue the work)
