About writing a feature on how I handled enemy stats and random battles, I would definitely be willing to do so if enough people wanted to read it.

Do it. I'll totally read it.

Pepsi;

About representation of the heroes through coding or portraits. Not going to happen. The game is not designed with the paradigm of giving somebody easy access into this genre, it was not even in our thought process. What *was* in my thought process was making all the heroes look unique to one another, I find it somewhat bewildering anybody could possibly mistake one character for another, ever. Sink or swim you'll just have to get used to it.

Battle design article is possible. We could probably come up with something together in time for the next HS, among other things; if people have other requests.

Just a note to let everyone know we updated the file to v1.12 to fix a few attack-related issues, and also to add some fail-safes to a particular boss battle that had the chance to behave unexpectedly.

Of course, all existing .sav files will still work with it, so there's no reason not to upgrade!

Finished it last night.

To everyone (you-know-who) who is grinding:
I'd advise against it, or wait until you're in the chapter where you can buy katanas and have a thief to steal certain items, items I'd like to know why you only allow them to be stolen there and not later. EXP in the final chapter is the best spot for any griding.

Also, it's much more difficult in the beginning before class changes. I suppose most RPG's are like that, as it's easier to control challenge when there is less complexity. You'll find new abilities that really help out, especially the final class change, which you have to use to win. All in all, there are 4: you get a choice for the 1st and 3rd. Am a fan of this.

Sorceress became my MVP by game's end, could not have done it without her. Thief MVP for mid-game.

Great game. Had a blast.

Besides a couple parts that had me stuck, the dungeon design is the big stand out to me. I liked the fighting, didn't mind it at all. I suppose some of it was playing with a joypad--it's really not a chore to run away like it is using the keyboard.

Has anyone else finished? Or come close? Curious what people think. They did some great things in there.

Caveat: I am still early in the game (chapter Pirate)

That said: Discombobulate is a wonderful spell and all you Sorc lovers are MISSING OUT. The spell says it does bonus damage versus golems. This is true. What it does not advertise is the incredible base damage, meaning it tears up things that aren't golems, too. Ice Blast? It's only 70% as effective.

(Yes I took Wizard to be contrary, whatchoo gonna do about it)

The game really picks up once you reach the 3rd class change. I asked the developers about it, and they told me it's probably due to that being where they picked it up again.

If you can get past the desert section, you're in the clear.

Spoiler about an item you receive from a boss that you cannot discard:
Think his name is Melvin, AWESOME cut-scene sequence that leads to him. He gives you the philosopher's stone. I didn't realize immediately that this item is essentially free healing (only in battle) for the entire party, usable by anyone, every turn.

This game has inspired me to make an 8 Bit game. No, not 8-Bit like this, 8-Bit like Mogri's project. My palette has four colors, and a background color. The colors are rusty brown/yellow.

My first completed OHR game used graphics ripped from this game. After that, I switched to original graphics and made Wolf's Quest, still inspired to keep my graphics simple.

But more so to hold to the solid design ideas that this game (and Tales of the New World) inspired me with.

NEW UPDATE! (Most likely the last, fingers crossed...)

Anyone currently playing can download this and continue using your existing save file without any difficulties. Just a few edits here and there, but one critical one involving an attack (not saying which one, cause you guys is a bunch of dirty cheaters, I suspect V ).

Download it! Gonk
